I bought a legal minimum sized plate for my 71 reg bike and the supplier includes a bit of card that explains how it meets the legal requirements. I keep it under the seat with the service book. Never been stopped though.

People up here are getting really wound up about plod seemingly doing nothing about bike thefts and ignoring scrotes on bikes with no plates, balaclava, 2 or 3 up. But then going out buying top of the line bikes to harass people speeding or small plates etc. Not all my personal views but that’s the general tone and this seems to be PR that’s backfired badly, I haven’t seen a positive comment about it but in fairness bikers are often a grumpy bunch who think the world is against us.
I don’t see this mood changing until plod are actively chasing down scrotes on totally illegal bikes, people are feeling like easy targets / cash cows because 99/100 the legal bikers will stop and take the ticket because they have too much to lose.
Not everywhere some places have squads for it
Sadly not enough of this happens. I could go out in the car now and within 15 minutes there'll be some scroats riding 3 up in balaclavas. I imagine the percentage of people being caught and charged for this is 5% at best.

I was on the bike last week following a black BMW saloon car travelling at a fair pace, unbeknown to me it was an unmarked police car, on came the discreet small blue lights and a fairly quiet siren, next he pulled over a newish Volvo SUV in front of him with odd looking undersized number plates, as I slowly passed noticed the plate on the front was totally different to the one at the rear, must have been an interesting conversation judge

Last year a ZZR1400 came along side me. Something " just didnt seem right " the riders clothing, style of riding, etc etc. Then he sudddenly accelerated away. About 15 mins later, i saw a white van, surrounded by 2 marked cars and suprise suprise, the ZZR1400 was stopped behind it.

I ride with a couple of ex police motorcyclists and they both have a similar style.

Very upright riding position and very particular lines round bends. For instance they can go into a right hand bend 18 inches from the kerb and never deviate on that line.

Also a lack of braking into corners relying on engine braking and anticipation of the severity of the bend. One of them I ride with you’d swear his brake light wasn’t working.
