Heres a pic of my new bike yesterday. Last Friday I passed my Mod2 test.

Yesterday I decided to ride cross country from Manxhester to Huddersfield and whilst there criss-crossed alot of steep dips/climbs around Marsden, Scapegoat, Holmfirth etc.

Interestingly on steep descents (yes weight forward of the bike on the front wheel but bodyweight back how much the steering stiffens up. I expected it but not as firm as it is!

Any tips on pants? I want decent discreet kevlar pants - jeans or cargo that don't look like M&S/pound land denim!

Well done on your first decent ride. The steering stiffening up is you leaning on the bars. Take yoyr weight off the bars and see how much lighter it feels.

Nice bike, great choice. smile

As black-k1 says, you're putting your weight into the bars. Try gripping the tank with your knees and using them to support your weight, keep your elbows bent.

There's been a lot of, justified, grumbling about single layer denims on here recently, but that said I liked the look of Spidi and PMJ denims and they're reasonably priced.

Now would be a good time for you to contact your local IAM group and see if they can get you out this year. Not only will you get tips to improve your riding, but it's a good way of meeting people with a shared interest.

Well done, lovely pic of a great bike. I passed my MOD 2 a month ago and have also got a gen 3 SV650 - it's fab to be out on a decent bike and not having to listen to that bloke in your ear!

Congrats on passing Hugo. If that's all on your doorstep you're a lucky man ( unless you live in Oldham wink )
I've got a pair of RST lined jeans, they look a bit like the jeans that were trendy five years back before the skinnies took over, loads of random stitching sort of thing. Best thing to do is to go to a J&S ( big one between Northwich and Chester) or Sportsbikeshop and have a look.

Great tips on descending thank you

My only pants are RST waterproof pants that feel like I'm the ghostbusters stay puffy man.

Jackets and gloves I'm sorted. The Gloves are Swedish brand leather and supple and great.

Can highly recommend Bull-it Covert Covec Jeans.

After I came off my bike few weeks ago, those jeans were the only thing that the paramedics couldn't cut off and I only had very minor lower body injuries.

Their cutting device went through my armoured leather jacket like a hot knife through butter but nothing they or the Police had could get through the jeans.

I'll be getting another pair when I'm able to ride again.

I highly recommend Hood jeans. I’ve had Knox, Bull-it and none of them come close.

I’d recommend a minimum of AA rated, if your budget allows go for AAA. They are quite thick, but the hood ones I have are still a nice fit without being too heavy and hot smile
