The throttle on mine is dead for the first bit of travel when cold and then picks up with a stutter. Modes don’t make any difference. I’ve tried it stationary to make sure it’s not a riding thing. When it’s hot the throttle picks up as you would expect.

I wonder if it’s a symptom of emissions mapping.

Might have to get it mapped. Any recommendations?

I would get it checked by a dealer first, Jim Aim is highly recommended, they really do know what they're doing. Also check the exhaust valve is working properly.

I had mine remapped by Hilltop in Hinckley, I didn't notice much difference at low revs, maybe marginally smoother, the main gain was midrange and top end where it's now not running so lean to meet new vehicle emissions regs, which isn't easy on a big v-twin. Feels better but there aren't any big gains like there are with BMW boxers.

BSD in Peterborough have been modifying the 1290 for a while too and they always get good reviews.
