Methinks the writing is on the wall for Fabio and Yamaha

Not a great start for the beast in the factory Ducati team.

Shame for Oliveira.

Solid finish for Marc and great to see jack doing well on the KTM.

Good race actually, probably far more interesting than the GP will be in tyre mode, you can see why Dorna have done it, one for their second love child Martin to get wins and second because it is simply more action paced.

Very unlucky for Miguel, daft mistake it looked like, but he had pace and you know he will be there in the race, Martins bike has insane speed and seemed to get on pipe far quicker than pecco's but as usual he cant do a thing after about 10 laps and cannot ride anywhere near as well on an even slightly worn tyre. Honda shambolic yet again only one guy can ride it, everyone else useless same as Yamaha really.

Watched it on Fox, the soundbyte commentary from the Dorna lot is hilarious, everything they say is a sound byte for a highlight reel and bless the guy who has to say Tissot sprint every time, that must be a nice watch he is getting, how sad.

I enjoyed that.

hehe

I didn't notice the spoiler until there was an on-board from Pecco right up his arse.

I enjoyed that, but I agree that it's unlikely to bring in new viewers for all the reasons already given, and likewise it's pushing riders and teams too hard.

My main problem, and I don't know if it's just me, is that I keep thinking I've got to go to work tomorrow frown

Currently in Portimăo. The grandstands were at half capacity today.

Seeing the speed into turn 1 in real life is quite something.

Not much else going on though between sessions. A V10 F1 demo was promised today, but didn't happen.

No commentary, no timing screens. The spectator screens are far too small. At least the sun is out!

I agree, amazing circuit but facilities lacking.

We popped into portimao on the way back, not much there.

Lots going on in praia da Rocha which is where we're staying

Sprint race was Good, but it feels a bit like a sideshow buildup for the main event; will get used to it I suppose.
Bit of a crash fest, considering what's at stake; Fabio looked very lucky.
Honda didn't have the straight line pace of Ducati, KTM or Aprillia.
Shame Jack didn't win, but great to see him up there.
Yay MM93 smile

I would guess this is Dorna's idea to try and spice things up ( I have no issue with that as I loath the F1 qualifying format, much preferring an hour when the time was just set, I would actually like to see qualifiers again, it was a real skill.

It also works nicely for the venues as you can guarantee prices will go up on Saturdays now there is a MotoGP race to watch rather than just qualifying, and this will eventually mean Dorna can charge more for races to be held, it's all about money, it s;ways is with Dorna.

True, but when it comes back to bite fans it is not so nice.

Just also seen Pol's crash, that looked awful think he might be out for quite a while, truly awful when a bike chases you into a barrier like that.

Really enjoyed the new format, made a great change from F1, actual racing and overtaking biggrin

Yamaha look terrible, they were talking about the V4 and whey they wouldn't abandon the I4, from today anything would be better. Pol, fking useless, doesn't deserve a seat IMO. Meanwhile the Ducati cup doesn't show any signs of slowing up?

Possibly not the right time to be having a go at Pol?

What do you mean by facilities lacking - we're thinking of going next year? (Or Misano or IoM)

I was uncertain on the whole sprint race plan, more towards ‘gimmick’ thoughts probably.

If every Saturday carries on like that, I was very wrong! I haven’t seen the whole paddock engaged on a Saturday like that before, the track conditions being so fast helped Q no doubt, but the day seems to have been a big success.

Even the reduced time in the smaller classes has worked as now they spend less time in the pits waiting and more time on circuit.

Interesting day
