I bought a 2002 Speed Triple back in February as a bit of a project. It was a runner with MoT but off the road since last June. It spluttered a lot (which being injected, it shouldn't) so I removed the tank. I found several air lines split at the ends onto the airbox, including the one to the ECU. All back together & running better but now have a lights fault.

If turn the ignition on and turn on the lights, nothing happens. The bike will crank. If I then turn the ignition off, the sidelamps are now both on whatever position the light switch is in. If I then turn the ignition on again, the lights are working in reverse; they are on with the switch in the off position and vice versa! scratchchin The main beam do not work on any setting, nor the flash button.

I suspect the dim dip relay but it looks very shiny and new inside. I'm struggling to find a wiring diagram online, only disconnecting the 4 pin plug on the LHS will extinguish the sidelights! The tank & airbox are off again in case its a wiring issue but I don't want to start hacking the loom apart if I've missed something obvious. Any riders out there have a suggestion? Other than flames it. smile

They are known to have wiring issues around the headstock

Try wiggling the bars / loom around there to see if anything changes

Thanks, I've been searching other forums and that is a common issue but I couldn't find a problem there. Even with fuse 10 removed the position lamps would come on eek and then not go out, so they were getting a current path from somewhere. I found one of the main lamps was only working on dip and replaced it, and even borrowed a 12v 2 pole relay from another car to switch a few around. I also started opening the loom to do checks:

I tried to trace the earths down low on the chassis, put everything back the way it was, and hey presto, smile working properly, all lamps coming on dip and full beam. Not sure what I did really but I suspect a dodgy relay or poor earth, or perhaps the airbox was jamming some wires together, the position lights even come on properly on the key past 'P.' Hoping to get it on the road for July (I'm too mean to switch insurance from current bike before renewal.....)

ETA: I removed excess grease from inside the connectors too, somebody must have prepped it for winter use in the past. smile
