hence cheap. if you register it to the mrs when you use it your car insurance will cover you ,a 50 cc tends to get abused by its 16 yr old owner and will have been
thrashed to within an inch of its life .

How've you got on with the insurance gorvid? I was out with my brother yesterday and checked my policies to see if they covered me riding his bike and none of them do. I've got 3 car policies all with different insurers and they all cover me to drive another car not owned by me - the wording used to be another vehicle years ago but somewhere down the line that's changed.
Gorvid, if you're prepared to wait for a couple of months, I can give you a great deal on a slightly used Gilera DNA50 Only about 1000 miles by then, always garaged, run only on Shell petrol, kept clean and will do about 55mph when derestricted. Great price, and I'll throw in my helmet and jacket/gloves/boots if you want
That lot pretty well sorts you out Gorvid but, if I may stick in my two-penn'th, next time you and your significant other go on a jeans-buying spree have a look at those specifically made for bikers rather than your usual Levis/Tescos or whatever - they incorporate armour/padding and provide a much better bum/road interface than standard gear. Oh, and they can look quite cool too, always depending of course on your own interpretation of that state of being.

Sorry Christian ...- I'm slow tonight...
You still havn't answered my question Coolest looking scooter you'll find anywhere
It is a really good idea to invest in some proper gear though, especially at the points where you'll hit the road - gloves, elbow and knee armour, and some strong boots (imagine a 300+ kg bike falling ONTO your leg/ankle...)

Good gear (not necessarily the same as expensive gear!) is a good idea but, 300+kg of bike! What are you riding? They obviously build modern mopeds to last!

Mine actually only weighs just over 100kg dry. So with 9 litres of fuel, oil, water etc etc I reckon it weights about 150kg. I made up the 300kg figure, but it feels like a hell of a lot when it hits your ankle How much does a CBR/GSX type thing weigh?
As black-k1 says, good gear doesn't have to be expensive. I've just got all weather armoured gear and IIRC it was about £100 or so for the jacket and trousers, got some summer gloves in a sale at £20 , nicked some winter gloves off my dad, boots were about £60 (sale again ) and helmet was about £120, but I've also used that for track days and i value my head, so I wasn't going to buy a £40 helmet
