Glad you managed to decipher that last sentence. I'd say you need maybe half a day to get you back where you are - perhaps a day if you leave it until sept. That'll mean about an extra £100 on your DAS costs at worst, which will still be cheaper than the 125 route. The other thing is that on your own, you might get some habits that you'll have to correct/ditch to pass the real test.

Steve.

Thanks for your advice guys

Update::

Saturday I passed the CBT :woohoo: First time ever been on a bike

I had a little trouble trying to change gears and braking

Now I'm torn between getting a 125 to practice on then DAS or straight to DAS which could be a few months time

It was a great feeling even at 40 mph.

Any thoughts on 125?? It would have to be big and strong

Just my five cents, but I wouldn't bother. You probably won't lose much on a secondhand 125, if anything at all, but there's the chance of buying a dog, the time needed to sell it once you're done with it and insurance costs. I can't think of many machines that would be a good fit for you either. Better to save your cash for a proper bike and kit. Most folks get DAS done in a few days training, so I it's unlikely think you'll need the 125 for extra practice.

Steve.

I have just gone the 125 way. Mind you I am not very big so the 125 I bought (Honda CBR125R) doesn't look silly when I am on it! I also got my insurance down to £219 fully comp. With a reported 100mpg this is going to be fun and fairly cheap to run!

Re the biker sites, try www.gbbikers.co.uk. Seem to be a friendly bunch over there

Good luck with whatever you decide!

They are as rare as rocking horse poo but you could get one of these; A Honda Varadero 125

They tend to be expensive, though. There is a high miler on Autotrader for £1100 but most are around the £1700 mark. A lot for a 125 to learn on.

Honda CG125s are not glamorous but if they work then you can generally get your money back

I doubt it will fit but I have a yellow Alpinestars Cordura jacket which you are welcome to. I'll put it in the Evo now so I don't forget it on Sunday.

We'll have to start going to bike shops....

The Ally Pally Superbike show was last weekend. This weekend is the MCN show at Excel. Confusing, what?

DAS day 1:

I arrived to glorious sunshine cool Signed in and lets get to the bike.
125 lets see what you remember from your CBT, which was when??? July says me yikes my one and only time on a bike!!

Trying to move off and uphill with erm a bit of meat on me paperbag was a struggle.
Stall start move stall start stall start move stop stall hehe

Now he is thinking should we even leave the carpark for the road yikes

Well we do and woohoo I’m biking cool
Lifesaver watch where your going indicate off the roundabout lifesaver get up to speed look in your mirrors.

After a couple of hours I’m getting the hang of this!!
Then the rain comes and my jeans are getting soaked still wearing my shades tho cool
My Achilles heel is controlling the bike at slow speed with the clutch and throttle and rear brake…. But that will come

DAS day 2 is Thurs and day 3 is Sun.

Going to book my test for end of this month..

Roll on Thursday

Nice one mate. As you say, the slow speed control takes time, but it's just time in the saddle that's needed. Hopefully the 500 will be a better fit for you.

Steve.
