Well I guess the big moment is 9:37 on Monday when I take the actual test. Today is getting on that 500, learning lots and having some fun

Well, day one down and what a blast!!! It may only be a GS500 to anyone else, but to me it was a pure adrenalin rush.

Instructor "made" me overtake evrything on a dual carriageway at one point opening her up to reach 90mph. I have never, ever, ever felt such exhiliration before. Totally totally in love with biking and just cannot wait to pass my test on Monday and get my own machine.

On top of that I did about 6 U-turns without problems!!

So... really looking forward to days 2 and 3 and to becoming one of the fold!

Great stuff, oh, the memories!! Good news about the u-turns. Keep giving them a go at every chance. My instructor knew where the examiner would take us to do the u-turns, so we went to the spot and practiced.. A great help IMO.

Told ya they'd be the fastest things in the world!

Have a good day mate.

Remember to cancel your turn signal rather than keep tooting the horn like I did when I switched from the 125 to the 500

Bah! Jammy git!

I'm still pootling around on 125's, won't get on a 600 until Monday (ooh! ooh! not that long now!!! ) Nevermind, if you're enjoying it only half as much as me, you're lovin it.

Nice job on the u-turns, i used to find them dead easy (like, 15yr ago rolleyes ) but I've been struggling recently until my instructor told me the other day to lean forwards and left to counterbalance, seems to help me.

Best thing you can do IMO is relax: when you stiffen up the bike can't move properly and it's harder. I've found this a lot, probably coz I'm only doing a couple of hours a week, where the bike is hard to balance, I'm all wobbly and thinking about steering. After 10-20 mins riding I've relaxed a bit and everything becomes much easier and natural.

Most relaxing thing for me was taking fully comp insurance. That's coz I'm sooooo confident!

Totally agree about relaxing!! As soon as you tense up nothing seems to work properly and the bike wants to stray wide in bends. Once you relax the bike seems to know what you want it to do!!

Well... third day of DAS today (in the pissing rain by the look of things) and loving it. Day two much better than day one as I was less concerned about "knowing" the bike and more able to relax and enjoy. 3 more U-turns with no probs and 2 emergency stops. I even managed 3 hill starts in third gear - not intnetionally though oops

I even got my first nod from another biker today - made me feel all gooey inside

All the best to everyone else doing their stuff!!

Sounds as if you're learning fast - well done! It really is the best feeling (well . . . one of the best . . . ahem!) and it doesn't really matter what you're riding or haow fast you're travelling. That sense of freedom, the nod from a fellow biker, the noise, the feeling of being part of the machine and the whole experience. Good luck with the rest of your journey - it just gets better and better . . . !

Good luck for tomorrow..

the gs500 I leanrned on scared the shit outa me! it was horrible I felt much happier and safer on my first bike a GSXR750. So it sound like you are off to a good start.

remember no pressure you can always take the test again(sure you wont need to). dont tense up and dont dwell on misstakes.

Mine is a bit wobbly at speed but not too bad. Hopefully my KTM Supermoto will be more chuckable
