Tuned K3 or standard K7 running in?
Discussion
Blimey. That K7 is miles faster than I thought it would be.
My K3 could not keep with it above 100mph. It just charged into the distance. I think my bulk has something to do with it as the microbe riding the K7 weighed 4 ounces last time he stood on the scales. I am over 120Kg, so that made a big impact.
The K3 seems to have better low down grunt, so leaving mid speed corners it stays with the newer bike, but once the revs get north of 10K the 2007 bike just romps away. Never had that before, as the K3 is usually the fastest thing with no effort.
Was great following Phil out of roundabouts up inclined sweeping bends and watching the black line being laid down from the sticky rear Bridgestone. Looked like a smaller version of Dani Pedrosa riding it, but otherwise a great spectacle. Those in doubt, go for a test drive on thye new bike. It is as good as its billing.
The Ducati 1098 we were with got most of the ooos and ahhhs from the great unwashed, but the star of the show on the road was definitely the Suzuki. Where's my chequebook?

Dude you almost make me sound good there...Actually I'm 76kgs at the mo having put on some chunk over the winter - and the burger lunch didn't help!!
Been out again all day today - the bike is just mega. Biggest problem now is fitness, you ride hard for an hour and its like going to the gym!!!
That and the fact you start to believe 150 is a steady cruise speed!!

K7 romps away from everything.....
so it's correct for once then?
Saw a couple at Cadwell yesterday and they looked quite impressive, though none in the group I was in. It was a shock to see a couple already stripped and getting ready for this season's racing.
I take it the front brake is ok then?

Interesting you should say that. The only thing my bike felt better at was the front brake lever feel. I have a Brembo radial master cylinder and Goodridge hoses and the black lever is stiff with masses of feedback. The standard fare on the K7 is a bit mushy and stationary I could easily get the lever back to the throttle... Phil said it was fine on the road, but I like a solid feel in my front brake. Don't know if the problem is the hoses or the master cylinder, as the callipers looked super sexy as one piece castings.
Angus,
Thanks for the invite!
Could've provided you with 4x K5 1000's, 1x K6 1000, 1x K6 750 and a few other beasties yesterday as a comparison, if I'd have known.
My K5 seems to hit 186 far too regularly, and usually before I've changed into 6th. The K7 is a little shorter geared IIRC, so potentially could be even more explosive at the top end. That may be why it leaves the K3.
You'll have to have a go on mine next time we meet up. Kier wasn't too sure, but then he's a tall bugger! Come to think of it, you're probably the same weight though......
Cheers
Matt

Matt - You should know Angus by now he only rides out with people he can beat, he thought I was going to be riding a Honda 250 Super dream.
His new best riding friend is a woman he used to work with and a 16 year old he met at Kings Cross who rides a Yamaha Townmate.

ROFL I hear the 16 yr old out corners him on a regular basis!

Bring out the gimp...
It was a good crack and I can rest easy all summer knowing I have a machine advantage!!
Engine maps - to be honest if you didn't have them then you wouldn't miss them. I have left it pretty much well alone, although at the weekend I rode a few hundred miles on the "B" map thinking it might save the rear tyre? As I was riding on my own I didn't really get an impression on how much time I would actually loose to mates, etc - but I suspect not a lot.
The thing is so fast (and I used to have a K3 1000) that unless you come across someone similarly mounted you blow everything and anything into the weeds.
I know the new R1 seems to lap race tracks faster in stock mode however firstly I think that has a lot to do with rear tyre (as an R1 has Pirelli corsas as standard) and secondly on the road you spend far more time running at full throttle which is where the K7 is mega.

Bloody cheek! A small 'energetic' parcel on it's way to you!!
PS If the K7 is shorter geared, then it will be lacking in real top end. Therefore take him to Le Mans and show him with your exhaust is white/purple all the way to the endcan or....... down gear your K3. I'm tempted just to pull power wheelies in second at 70 (er kmph officer)
