Hi All - thought I'd start a topic on track day riding as I'm at Snetterton on Wed.

I think I'm getting fairly quick this year but obviously there's always room for improvement and learning which is half the fun.

With regards to cornering, I try to maintain a neutral throttle - just wondering what your thoughts are with regards to throttle control before the apex?

In addition, there's a point at Snetterton where there's a quick left / right. I always try and not pressure the bars when moving from one side of the bike to the other but somehow never manage it and end up unsettling the bike - any thoughts or advice appreciated?

Last point – I try and complete all of my braking before I turn the bike but I’ve read about riders trailing the brake into the corner. Is this wise on road tyres?

Thanks all.. Rob.

My 2 bob..

1. ..ideally before the apex...you would roll the throttle on ,just to chime it in smooth to take up the slack in the chain/drive..then roll on incrementally taking time to note how much it`s driving the bike wide or pulling the bike up...I try to be off the brakes then apply the throttle with as little dead time in between...perhaps finding the power chime in point once or twice deciding at which point to begin driving..

2. ..silicon spray or similar .e.g dashboard cleaner, on the seat can make it slippy as can be ..allowing your leathered ass to slide from right to left with ease instead of taking the weight on your legs while you shift position...but you trade off a bit of movement on the gas & brakes...and need to take up the extra effort on your wrists so your stamina suffers on long sessions...

3 ..try gently turning in while just trailing the front brake a tad..it will do it if your gentle...then ease off to nothing ..you`ll find your line tightening...the same happens if you brake a tad while cornering...your line widens...but always be smooth and progressive...that way you feel the changes in plenty of time to understand whats going on...

What he said. and try to be creamy smooth.

Visualize the circut in your mind and try to think where you are not up to scratch (helps if you are honest with yourself) and apply above info.
