Whats happening with these chav car drivers, me and my brother went for a ride last night. Bedfordshire to Oxford and we had a Ford Focus and a 106GTI both driven by baseball capped divs see us behind them see a gap in traffic and knew we was going to overtake and without indicating do a stupid overtake move themselves, at about 30-40 mph and thrashing their cars as if they where going to leave my bruvs Busa and my Duke.

Why do they do that? Even when I was growing up with my RS Turbo R5 Turbo and 535I I knew the bike was quicker and moved to the left.

Have these lads had no education? Does it need introducing at school prior to getting car licence? Or shall we place an advert in Max Power?

Just cruise up alongside while they are at full chat, give them a cheeky wave and with one hand on the bar casually accelerate past. Instant shrinkage for them.

Dare i sound like an old git (being in my 30's now) biggrin
I think young-uns' these days seem to have more angst and feel they continually have something to prove compared to say 15 years ago.

I was a pretty typical 17 year old hoodlum in my car when i first passed my test but knew when i was beat if an FZR1000 or ZXR750 appeared behind me..
Actually i remember at 17 being seriously envious of a guy who lived near my mate who had a Kawasaki KR1-S. Never tried to race him.. Just used to stare alot.. biggrin
(Only took me about 10 years to finally own one..)

Max Power magazine contributes to breeding this line of thought, they publish letters from the kiddies which describe how their modded motor is a GSXR-eater based on 1 incident where the biker either had enough brains or tinybollux and decided to back off in a dangerous situation.

It's much like how when Italians all got tough after watching Rocky.. Pay for my ing candy moolie!

Or maybe i'm being over generous about their intelligence?
"Duuuur that bike has only got 996cc... my clio has got 1100cc so must be faster!"

Or maybe they were like me when I was a lad "I know this bike can whip me but I'll race aaaaaanyone damnit!"

I like the way they have no clue about BHP either...

Yes little boy... your 136 BHP is a manufactures quoted figure... of a specially selected and balanced and brand new engine AT THE CRANK... my 135BHP is a dyno confirmed figuer AT THE BACK WHEEL! Yours is not more powerful!

..... but mine's got 136bhp

A combination of all the above me thinks.

Now days, those type of teens and early twenty year olds seem to either want to be gangstaz, or actually 'are gangstaz', don't give a flying **** about anyone else other than looking good and trying to command the respec' of all those around them. Stick them behind a wheel and it just exagerates the "I'm better than you, whoever you are" mentality.

Never will forget seeing a 16/17 year old whiter than white girl talking like she was born and bread in Jamaica trying to intimidate some other kids on the train. I just laughed at her, but I know of people who have seen their mates beaten quite badly by outnumbering scum youth...

I blame Snoop Dog and Tony Blair. Max Power is normally fine...they just stick a large radiogram in the dash, add a huge exhaust, lower it so it won't go over speed bumps and take the door locks off so you can't get in.

Hang on, bar the stupid stereo, that sounds like my Griff....god I feel old...

I think you hit the nail on the head! So many of my non biking mates really have no clue how utterly slow cars are in accelerating in comparison.

This is even funnier though....
I was laughing at a courier yesterday who'd chaved up his cbr125 (no L plates) with lots of aftermarket tat including a loud exhaust, riding using his full acceleration of his awesome machine trying to beat me on a cbr600. He only tried the cheeky 'I'm pulling in front of you' at the light move twice before he was fully dispatched as I had sufficient space never to be seen again. lol

You boys dont give them enough credit.

When I had a car that was fastish, I, in full knowledge of the bike's capabilities and my own cars shortcomings, used to give it some gas.

Not because I thought I could beat them, but because I wanted the biker to put on a bit of a show and I know you (we) always take the bait.

I love it when some cruzin' clown gives it some stick alongside me, give me an excuse to overtake - on the back wheel.

shout Lighten up people!

I was slower than a Pulsar Gti-r thing. (Turbocharged Jap car)

He probably felt really proud....and has probably told all his mates....

My bike was only running on 3 cylinders at the time and wouldn't rev above 8000rpm....

Did I let the side down? paperbag

naturaly, two car widths, conditions permitting, it's such a shame you don't get to see their facial expressions as you lift off the loud pedal for a second and give 'em some spit-back hehe

we were all some kind of 'boy raver' once...hell I still am to some extent with a Cerb and a ZX10... in my yoof it was minis, escorts and capris, let's cut them a bit of slack every now and then wink

Sounds like my sales manager, runs about in a Mercedes 220 CDI and although a long way from being a chav, he has a similar lack of knowledge. He is absolutely convinced that the next model merc (3 litre) would see off my bike in a straight line race or quote 'any of those 1000cc bikes'. It didn't matter that I tried to explain the concept of power to weight he really hasn't experienced anything fast, so knows no better banghead

I guess to your average joe a 2.0tdi Audi is "really fast"
