Hi all. Just need advice from someone who might have been in the same situation as I am in.
I have a ZRX1100 and have had great fun with it until I did a long stint down to the south coast last weekend. I went from the Midlands swapping between my ladies Tuscan and the ZRX. She got the twisty A and B roads and I got the M42, M40, M3 etc (I drew the short straw huh!)
I have been to our local bike shop today CMC Cannock to try and look for an alternative to the ZRX that does not rip my head off and rattle my bones with the wind drag at slightly over 70 following the Tuscan!!!
I have had a look at R1's and 1000cc Fazers so far (all they had in the shop second hand and around the 1000cc bracket)

The Fazer is reported as being a great all round bike with 190BHP?? is that true? But, alas, it does not rock my boat looks wise.

So the question is, can anyone recommend a 1000cc or plus bike that does the twistly bits, goes like stink but wont rattle my head into a froth when doing high speed runs over a distance.

Hope you can help.

Cheers

Mark.

The fazer definitely does Not have 190bhp. The very latest fazer has effectively the 2002-2003 R1 engine which i think is around 145bhp at the crank max. so you're looking at aroung 130 at the weels.
I'm not exact but that kinda figure..

Depends what you want really. The ZRX has loads of stomp just no wind protection so you will need something pretty quick to feel alot quicker on pull away etc.

How about a ZZR1400.. keeping with the Kwak route or for less money and slightly more tourey an older ZZR1200

A bit of a wild card would be a 2001 model ZX-9R Which KJM are doing new ones for under 5k. Now that has gotta be tempting.
Still fairly comfy too.

cheers,

Nick

Well, I have a Hornet and an Aprilia Falco. Had the Hornet first, then fancied more grunt and wind protection much like your good self so after a thorough process where I whittled down and eliminated loads of bikes, ended up buying me the Falco.

What a beast it is. You asked for a recommendation, I'll recommend you an Aprilia.

Ace bike. Got poke as its derestricted (simple mod), trick bits (Brembos, Ohlins), exclusivity, also cheap to pick up cos they are "different" - ticked all my boxes.

Mille may float your boat? Depends if you are after a twin really.

Seconded, Falco with Ohlins is a rather good bargain combination. It depends what you want to do. I was going to suggest a ZRX1200S as an alternative if you want protection from the elements and plenty of grunt. More grunt can be had by tuning the engine along ZZR12 lines, since it's the same lump, so cams, carbs and so on from the ZZR will transplant across.

Hi guys.

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Me and my lady have been looking at the bikes you have put forward and they all look great.
Ruth likes the ZZR1400 and the colour of the ZRX1200S rolleyes. I like the Aprilia (never even thought about that one) and the ZX9R and the ZRX1200S.
Guess we will have to road test them all! Kewl!

Off to trawl the bike shops this weekend! clap

ZX12R - I just sold mine, was a fantastic bike that I had from new for 7 years & 30k miles. Toured Europe down to Slovenia & Italy on it. Never had a problem with it at all. Very stable up to 160mph+ speeds (autobahn) & good wind protection. Now have a ZZR1400 which is also fantastic.

Flip up contour`d screens are a good mod too if helmet buffeting is an issue. The standard fairing screens could be higher..

The ZX12R looks kewl! cool Help again as I am of the old school and deal with BHP. So what is the is the bike in BHP when the specs show 131KW and 134 N-M as stated on this site http://www.zx12r.nl/ ?
What would be a reasonable price to pay for the ZX12R?

So many bloody questions huh! Sorry, just trying to pick the right next move.

Thanks

Mark.

Basically 180hp and around 100LB/FT of torque. I sold my 7 year old 1 owner bike with all service records for £3k privately.
