Following my thread bitching about the the new R6 and my inability to make a decision on what bike to purchase to replace my trusty Hornet, I've taken the plunge an found an 03 R1. (yes, yes I know I said I wanted flat bars)

I really wasn't sure about this whole sports bike lark but now I see what I've been missing. It handles so well, corners can be taken way faster and as for the straights, it's like engaging warp drive and putting all other traffic on 'pause' whilst you do your best to keep the front wheel down and not put it in a hedgebiggrin . Anyway enough of the road test cliches In short, I love it.

P.S. I was going to do Santa Pod RWYB on Sunday but my bed was just too cosy. Does anyone have any tips on launching? So far the best seems to be short shifting in first and then going for it. Will starting in second gear and slipping clutch be better or is that going to knacker things?

Congrats! That's the same model as I have; fantastic bike smile

re Launching - I tend to launch in 1st, whilst trailing the rear brake a little in an attempt to keep the front down - but then I quite like taking off with the front wheel gently lifting wink hehe

Well I got the same idea about sports bikes (not ridden anything apart from a sit up and beg bike) so got to get around to taking a test ride on a few including a gix 750 in the next month to see what I like when I get a new bike next march

Well I'm eyeing up R6's at the moment to replace my binned bike, seem's about 3K mark for resonable bike, well from what i see, was tempted on gsxr750 but i think i like the R6 more :P R1 bit to much for a 2nd bike me thinks, I would only end up as a statistic frown

You're most likely right- but remember, it's very easy to crash any bike, and the new R6 is actually pretty quick. smile
