as the heading says, I have a Datatool alarm on my Fazer which had worked great but it only disarms for about 30 secs or just enought time to get in in the garage before it re-arms. a bloody pain sometimes. but at least its has not gone off in the middle of the night. Now my bike is kept in a garage at home and at work so it opout of sight.

looking at say a Speed triple for a new bike next Spring so worth more than my fazer and is it worth investing in tracker?

Is it worth thinking about a tracker device instead of a alarm and has anyone here dome this and how much would it effect your insurance and are they amy good. I have never had a tracker fitted to any car/bike

what are the costs involved etc...

many thanks for the replys in advance

Only if it saves you on insurance or enables you to get insurance. Otherwise they're a complete waste of time in my experience.

Personally never bothered with an alarm, nobody takes any notice of them anyway. Plus if your bike is a toy then you wont have a dead battery when you go to ride it. Same answer for the tracker. I just use my garage a big chain to a ground anchor and a alarmed disc lock. At the end of the day is that not what insurance is for.

My Insurance offered me a £30 discount, for fitting a £250 alarm.

hehe

They'll just leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere... like a girl (would).

I had a Datatool System4 fitted on the Triple when I got it. When you turn it off it only sets the immobiliser so you can still move the bike around. If you want to set the full alarm you just blip the blipper. It's a big improvement on the System3 that was on the Sprint.

IMHO basic alarm plus pager. Either the bike gets targetted by the pro's and you will NOT see it again, or it's some screwdriver scumbag... in which case the pager will give you a fighting chance to hear the alarm inside the pub and step outside to have words with the shitbag. The damage will be done to the bike by then, but you can take it out of his face smile
I rather suspect that most modern bikes can't be started without coded keys etc. (big Hondas at any rate...) but it won't stop them trying.

OK so the idea's would be just phone the insurance company and see if it amkes much of a difference. if not then don't worry about an alarm or tracker?
just make sure its locked up in the garage

From my experience yesterday & today, spend your money on big chains and ground anchors frown

Got the alarm fitted for free but the ins co were not interested in it at all!

As speed8 says, with the triumph one, if you let it set itself the movement sensor does not trip in, just the alarm/imob part.

When moving the bike, I just turn it off then turn the ign back on until it's where I need it. Same for filling with petrol. No big deal....

Further to Muffles post above go read his account of the situation here, utterly disgraceful behaviour by the tracking company.

Hope you get this resolved mate, have you got the insurance co involved yet?

on the datatool alarms if you arm it, then press the grey button it goes into dealer mode, so you can move it around without the alarm going off... if you turn the ignition on the alarm goes off...

I've notified the insurance but not actually made a claim yet, I'm waiting to see how it impacts me in terms of re-insuring, and also what I can get from the tracker company.
