Just wondering if any of these racers own / ride road bikes?

Anybody know?

I'd say the majority of them don't......there may even be a clause in their contracts stating they cannot ride on road due to the risks involved

I've read before that Rossi used to have a CBR6 (assume this was when back at Repsol/H*nda) to get around London on, the lid obviously gives the anonymity he likes as well.

Rossi has a garage full but rarely rides on the road because he's sure he'd end up dead (that's what his autobiography states, anyway). Stoner has several crossers and has recently (surprise!) acquired a Ducati Hypermotard S.

Barry Sheene was once asked what bike he rode on the road... His response was soemthing aslong the lines of "What, ride on the road.....are you mad?"

Yep Sheene could'nt believe riders got there knee down on the road/roundabouts was in MCN, the following week a lot of the readers letters slated him, but hey its the late Barry Sheene respect him whatever he says!

I know Niall McK and Jamie Whit have road bikes, Niall Mck said about how slow he goes on the road as he hates the risk, spoke to Jamie Whit at the TT in 2000 and he said he rides on the road, he has a mint LC now as well as others I would have thought.

… of the current riders I know of Rossi, Gregoria Lavia(spelling?), Shakey Burn, Chris Walker, Michael Rutter, Karl Harris, James Haydon spring to mind, im sure theres lots more.

Quite a few of the F1 guys ride as well..Schumacher,Coulthard, the other ex McLaren guy who’s name escapes me” The ice man”..Dont follow F1 so forgive my ignorance. Of course both the MCrae brothers where/are supposed to be handy on a bike, Tim Harvey rides as well.

I bet theres a lot more than you think.

james toseland, surprise surprise he has a honda supplied fireblade and does rack up some miles on it, micheal rutter rides to most meetings on one of his many collection of bikes, carlos checa aka careless chuka rides a 999r on the road

i have freinds who regularly ride with karl harris and guy martin (hydrex honda bsb) and they really are bonkers!!!!

i know loads of riders who ride on the road, but yes some have clauses saying they cant..

I remember reading about James Whitham being almost obsessive with his Yam LC rebuild-even down to getting the correct plating done on the bolts that he used.
Chris Walker also (at least a couple of years ago) had a 1965 BSA 650 Lightning Clubman. (I had one similar in me yoof)
p.s. I thought Rossi had an SP2 for "around town" when with Honda. I also recall that Sheene had an MV at his London pad but have a suspicion he rode something more practical like a Suzy Bandit maybe?..and I think he even continued to wear the famous Donald Duck 7 lid on the grounds that there were plenty of copies around so wouldn't get recognised.
