motorbike carbon footprint

was just thinking how big or small is it compared to a car. your avarage sports bike to say a family tin top?

with all the talk of "your carbon footprint" how are bikers are helping the world over car drivers

Compared the the number of active volcanoes and the millions of tonnes of rotting vegetation, I would have thought the average bike has all effect on the environment.

You're opening up a can of worms. Don't say too much or those lefties will twig that sportsbikes use more fuel than a tiny hatchback.

Figures for my commute; circa 250 miles per week;

Car 23mpg
Bike 45mpg

I would say Vs a “normal” mainline sports car there is much more exotic metals used in making a bike thou..But to counter that there are millions more cars out there.

Fuel consumption wise bikes are far superior to cars, even full on sportsbikes can managed circa 50MPG held at motorway speeds.

The owner real downer I can see is bikes are far harder on tyres…

Bike wins no contest:

1. It's more fuel efficient that most cars
2. It causes no congestion
3. It spends less time in traffic, so a double whammy on fuel efficiency there
4. Much less metal is used to make it and therefore less power is needed to do so
5. You don't need to make a few hundred kgs of batteries for it
6. blah blah blah

This Eco nonsense is so rarely a big picture view these days. I see loads of those poxy pious's on the roads with new plates on in the city. How much energy did they take to make eh? Much more that is used by my bike to move itself several times around the globe I'll wager.

Not really.

By whatever eco-measure you use, bikes are a lot more efficient in the manufacturing process. There's so many fewer parts.

i just dont subscribe to all the carbon footprint rubbish, the amount we contribute isnt that great and all the tax is a con in my view, i dont care how many g/co2 per km my next bike will put out and will quite happily be driving a Rangie or a Cerb/Tuscan as my own car next year if work goes well, and not care what they make either .

Almost right...the effect of the carbon footprint of india and china is a drop in the ocean. UK let alone a single bike is alot less than that
