Hi all, does this sound like a good deal?

Fairing £322.62 (inc full fairing, rear section and mudguard)
Trailer £390.00 plus tow bar fitting £182...

Bascially I cannot afford to bin my 2007 R1 on track and therefore I don't ride as hard as I'd like - takes the edge off the experience every time I ride on track with road fairing.

All prices are INC VAT.

Rob.

So if you put a trackday fairing on it then you won't be bothered about binning it confused

Its hard to tell with track fairings - as far as i can see you get what you pay for. I paid about the same as the figure you are quoting for skidmarx ones which i would do again because the fit and quality is great. Some of my mates bought cheaper ones off ebay and they look shite and took ages to 'persuade' on to the bike. Not much use I know but cheap isn't necessarliy best with these..

The figures quoted look about average.

Trailer wise I suspect you get what you pay for.

Do you have track fairing on your R6 - looks like your profile pics have standard road fairing on? I managed to low side my GSXR and the damage cost around £1300 because of having to replace the road fairing.

Tow bar fitting only £182? Is that for the tow bar as well or just fitting. Both cost me £460 privately, a saving of over £700 over what the Jag dealer quoted me.

Don't want to p*** on your chips, but I binned a 4 month old GSXR at Brands, and the fairing damage was much the least of my problems. Ended up in the litter and the damage this does has to be seen to be believed. Just about every part of the bike looked like someone had taken a 5ft wire brush to it - and that includes frame, casings, switchgear, exhaust hanger, pegs - you name it. Anything and everything that costs money was damaged. The bike was still 100% straight (had that laser-checked). The fairings were easy enough to source but try saving up for switchgear etc on a new bike......

Which is why my new GSXR will now stay tucked up in the garage on track days while I hack an old SRAD round the track and won't give a hoot if that goes down the track.

Having had my bikes slide down the track on numerous occassions, I decided to by a 99 cbr 600. A bit of a heap, but good enough to have some fun on without worrying. Had so much fun in fact that after 2 trackdays on it I bought a R! tracker as well, which got taken out at the weekend at Mallory. What a blast!

Save your road bike and get a track bike, you won't regret it, neither will your wallet.

This lad speaks a lot of sense, things like fairing/clock brackets take a hammering as well. If you can afford to take the loss if it all goes wrong, then do it. If not, well...

Saying that I might take mine on track next year.

Might not too.

I am in the same boat at the moment.

I lost out on bidding for some Rossi (Gauloises) rep track fairings on ebay and am now looking at buying new for an 03 R6.

Skidmarx look good and come in around £400 all in including mudguard; you need to buy the tank sperately obviously. ARD fairings look good too. The problem is, without seeing them in the flesh I feel nervous spending out over mail order.

Looks like a trip to the NEC in November may clear some of this up.

As for trailer, I can use the works Transit so no need at the moment.

PS. Anyone fancy Snetterton on Oct 21st?

Skidmarx are fine, that's what I've got on the SRAD, although remember that you wil have to drill ALL the holes and get the fixings etc.

Still won't protect the rest of the bike though! To put my situ above in context, I've been riding track days for 7+ years, I know Brands very well having done, hmm, maybe 10 days there and also driven cars round. On the day of my off, I had already done about 35 laps, tyres were properly warm, and I was progressing at fair but not silly speed. So, all things appeared good, but I lost the rear and lowsided going into Paddock at around 80mph and ended up in the litter at the bottom of the hill.

My point is, again, (a) track fairings will only stop a small percentage of the damage from a trip into the litter, and (b) it can happen however careful/experienced/confident you are. You have to have the mindset that your trackday could cost you anywhere between £99 and the full value of your bike......then it's fine biggrin

Sorry not me, I'm all done for this year. Next year maybe.
