Just tucked the bike up for it's winter hibernation.

Need to focus the mind on some track action in 2008 to get through the dreary winter months.

I will be firing it up hopefully once a month to keep the gas in the carbs fresh-ish, to re-charge the battery and to warm the oil thoroughly. Will also be rotating the wheels. Any other tips other than WD40 treatment?

Anyone else put their bike away for winter yet?
yep http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

get a optimate...that is all i do,just make sure everythings clean and lubed...i keep mine on paddock stands in the w/shop over the "winter"

still dont know weather to go for a new car or a new bike in the spring

the old blade is still in VERY good condition, never seen road salt always kept clean and lubed.....she's in better condition than a lot of 2 year old bikes ive seen!

Mine's been garaged for the last 3-4 weeks. I put it up on the paddock stand last night and plugged in the optimate.

For some reason the build quality on those y2k bikes is very good. I've had mine from new, it has 6 years and 32k on it, I've cleaned it maybe 4 or 5 times, I used it in all weathers and I've really not looked after it and it still comes up pretty well after a clean. The only bits that let mine down are the bits I've smacked in to stuff or dropped, the fairing screws and the heel plates.

she's the best bike ive ever owned, hence the indecision over weather to change her in the spring smile

if i do get a new bike i will be sorry to see her go tbh frown

Shame it didn't rub off on my ST or my mate's Super Blackbird. His VFR is beautiful but the SB and ST are as shabby as fcuk, and both newer.

The heated grips and muffs paid for themselves today, as did the thermal socks and fleece smile

Got to work nice and warm and dry.

There was a distinct lack of bikes out this morning though. Probably spotted less than 20% of the usual amount.

lol, even the thought of getting on the bike this morning made me shiver. In reality though, once I had all the gear on it was OK.

Just got to be very careful with ice now. The main roads are generally OK all year round. It's the side roads that cause the problems, especially very early before the sun comes up to melt it.

Was cold this morning but not that cold, granted the bike cover was frozen to the shape of the bike wink The cold certainly wakes you up even at London speeds.
I still can't belive I had no car for the first three years of moving to London and used to take the bike to spend Christmas with the family outside of London. I remember one Christmas eve my hands were so cold and numb I had stop to take the gloves off at the motorway services to warm my hand up sufficiently to continue. Three winters with no heated grips or clothing lol I must have been mad. Now the same trip is done from the comfort of my climate controlled car at 22deg on the temp setting. wink

I know what you mean. I had no car for years and have done a whole year (including a snow covered London winter) despatching in all weathers and in over 20 years on bikes have only just bought my first set of heated grips. Mad
rolleyes Have seen the light now though smile
