I passed my DAS about a month ago and I have found a Suzuki GSF600 Bandit (naked).
I am 30, and want to use bike for social / commuting about 5,000-10,000 miles/year.
I want to keep it on a driveway in South-West London and I wanted to know any qood insurance companies.

Also how much do things like an alarm and security reduce insurance by?

Everyones different. Get a copy of MCN or any bike mag and go through all the adverts in the back. Phone them and get quotes. I would probably say you should look at paying 4-500 quid.
Security will reduce the risk a significant amount, a cat 1 alarm will reduce the premium from 10-30%.

Any problems, send me an email.

As you're in the business Jack, I'm sure you have a better idea than I, but I have found that an alarm makes very little difference to a bike quote. With the Mille, adding a £3/400 alarm would have reduced my premium by £30 a year. With the MV, ripping the faulty one off made no difference (bought with no install cert) and adding a new one would have given me a £13 discount for a quarter. Hardly 30%...

Mechanical security (i.e. SoldSecure lock/disclock etc) will however reduce the premium, almost as much as a brickbuilt garage.

Marcus, My premium went down 27% on my VFR400R. Kept on road in London.
Mind you, to be honest, I've never applied more than 15% to any of my policies...

right i'm 30 as well, passed my DAS back Oct 06. used the net and phoned around and get quote was the policy shop who in this months Ride survay came out top. nice.

Iw as paying £500 for my first year on a afzer FZS 600. garaged, alarm and ground ancher etc...

this year for the same bike after getting my first years NCB I got it down to £180 again fully comp.

changing to a 08 Speed triple in March and asked how much it makes to pay to get an alarm fitted. about £250 give or take £50 +/-.

difference with the insurance is £30 a year. so not worth me paying for the alarm BUT my bike is garaged, chained, garage alarm etc..

So if the bike's on the drive I would get the alarm. if you got a ground anchor, big chain then maybe not. also think about getting a bike covor so they are not sure what type of bike you got underneath

hope that helps a bit

Worst quote so far is 970... best quote 340... The old difference is that the best was willing to consider the fact I had a 50cc 14 years ago and 8 years NO Claims in a car...

I said that I have no security devices at all.

But I am planning on getting a ground anchour and BIG lock.

I went to www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk and the best quote was from H&R.

The worst was from eBike.

1994 ZXR 750, TPFT was £308 with a Cat 1 alarm and in a brick built garage.

I'm 25, 3 points and a ban on my licence and passed my DAS back in August.

I asked on Bike Girl,
Bennetts - were very cheap for me but have a bit of a rep for not paying out
Express Insurance - highly recommended over there
Carole Nash
Equity Red Star

I'm 26, 0NCB, 3 points, 7 yrs driving, 0 years riding (test in Jan) quoted £150 annual for an SV650 '99 with Bennetts. My mate, a bloke, is 30, full NCB, no points also has test in Jan, did the same bike and was quoted £275!

That's because girls cant ride properly, and are only allowed their own bikes so they can get to the teahut first, and get the drinks in.
