Must admit, thought it was dog ugly to start with although am coming around to the styling now
Looks utterley georgeous as a race/track bike.
That's because they've binned the wank bits such as the plate hanger, the absurd mirror/indicator combos, the indicator repeaters on the forks and the paint job. The only reason (imo) that the repsol one looks so good is that the repsol paint job would make a c90 look stunning, the picture makes the monster mirrors less conspicuous, there's no plate on it and they've binned the fork indicators. You can slap a load of make-up on it and make it a one bagger but it's still no looker Looks utterley georgeous as a race/track bike.
This is probably beside the point though as the bike will probably be superb. Mine looks like st dressed in a shell suit but rides like heaven

Moto-Select in Farnham last night and I conclude
The Fireblade has always been in the top 5 biggest selling bikes year on year since its inception.
2008 - This will not happen again. The 2008 Fireblade is Honda's 999. It will not be bought. It will be facelifted for 2009.
The bike looked cheap as they have obviously cut costs. No hydraulic clutch, no damper, poor quality sprockets and some fixings.
Very unpleasing to look at; a damp squib. I am not in the market, but my money would be going back to the Bologna boys this year.

hhhmmmmm im sure i had to check the honda hesd system on the new blade i pdi'd and test rode the other day, and come to think of it there is even a hrc kit damper to replace it!!!
also with over 600 pre ordered and all reviews pointing at it being the best bike of the year i find it highly unlikely that it is going to be a damp squib or not sell!!!

RED AS IN PICS RODE IT YESTERDAY AND BOUGHT IT IN THE NIGHT
Went to my local Honda dealer yesterday to have a proper look.
The quality of the bike, which was shockingly poor on the show models, has improved with the production version. The wet weight of the bike is meant to be about 199kg, which is excellent. They had all 4 colour schemes in stock, so it was good to compare. White/Black looks best.
Despite the fact that the Blade is bound to be great to ride, it's fackin' awful to look at. A superbike with Droopy looks. The exhaust is nasty. The seat unit is angular, and at odds with the "melted" front end. The inset tank badge and proud CBR badge on the fairing are tacky in the extreme.
The engineering appeals to me but I'll never own one because it's so ugly and unresolved.

As originally suggested it will not be the success of previous years; purely on aesthetics.
I was seriously considering the 08 blade to replace mine last year when talk of V4 engine, etc. was banded around. Even the prototype pictures looked reasonable. But the bike, in reality, is not pleasing. It will be some people's taste; those that must have the latest and greatest, the Honda fanatical. It won't appeal to most of the bike buying public. I guarantee you that they will be headed towards Suzuki and Yamaha.
Dragging this one back up for the sake of it really.
Just got back from the local honda garage and have to say it's not nearly as ugly as it looks in photographs, I dare say I'm in the minority who really quite like it. The red paint doesn't do it any favours IMO, but it's a lovely bike.
First impressions were it's very dinky, I'm willing to bet I could lose it up the crack of my arris if I wore the wrong pants. Very comfortable though. Have to say aesthetically I preferred the previous model, the front end doesn't appeal massively though it's better than I expected, from the front on view i'm not too struck, the rest of the bike however (assuming there's a tail tidy fitted) is pretty nice.
Was very tempted to part with the cash there and then, but for me it'd (just)be last years blade instead, loved the test ride and loved the look of them, and for someone who's happy to know the bikes limitations are way beyond his own, it's more than ample for me!
Now the (AFAIK unchanged spec) 2008 CBR600RR's new colours, especially the white black and red one, really took my fancy. Quite like the HANNspree livery too if I'm honest, but I've yet to pop up to the other dealer to see the one they have in stock in the flesh, so to speak.
