True,
Never lost the rear on the r6, but was easy on the 750. r6 all the way.

Alright Stu.

600's are great fun on track.

Er, that's all really.

I'd considered 750's but as much as I love ZX7Rs (which I really do adore) I can't see them holding a candle to newer stuff on track
Does this matter if your only intention is trackdays and not racing. If it does then surely the litre is the only option, and still expect to be over taken by someone with less capacity but more talent
Got to say I agree with Jimmy. I bought an Rs250 Aprilia for trackdays and love it. I get whipped down the straights by pretty much everything but braking and the corners are the fun bit. I've had instances where over a lap I can keep hold of a not particularly well ridden R1 (I'm not that great myself, so that puts it into perspective) and then been destroyed by a guy riding an early 90's CBR600. If you think you need 'the latest and greatest' then you are deluding yourself.

Too many people get hung up on whats quickest.

Thats not the point of a track day.

Get a big that you are comfortable with and can afford to run.

600 will be cheaper overall

1000 can be alot of fun too.

If you are not a great ride ron the track so what, your out to enjoy yourself and get a bit better. Dont get caught up with comparing yourself to others on different bikes.

They might be happier living the rest of their life in a wheelchair than you, you just dont know.

I have to admit, for many years I was one of those who said you dont need anything more than a 600 on the track or road, only to go get a 1000.

Maybe its my increasing mass, or just getting older and lazier, but I cant see me dropping back onto a 600 now. The 1000s obviously need more respect, but are as light and flickable as any of the 3 GSXR600s I had over the years, the newest being a K4 (dont know what like the newer ones are?)but have what feels like unlimited more power (ok, I know its some where around 50bhp) and torque.

As it has been said its more about what you are happy with, I for one won't be going back to a 600, even though I doubt my lap times have reduced much with the bigger bikes.

Loads of great advice there cheers guys.

I've pretty much sold myself on an R6, there's one locally which I like. Test rode a 675 which although looks and sound the business, confirmed that they're just that little bit too dinky for me, couldn't grip the bike very well at all. Beautiful though.
Same story with ducati's sadly, always wanted one but unlikely to ever happen.

Running costs etc I'm fine with whatever I get as it won't be anything too exotic they cost pennies to run in comparison to what I'm used to shelling out on cars etc, so I'm really just after something that'll be great to learn on, great fun on road and track whilst not being OTT for a novice track rider.

Bike should be bought this week, then it's off to the california superbike school, couple of trackdays at oulton with a view to getting enough practice in before may to justify a trip to almeria with a mate who's off there.

Anyone know where I can get some straps for the back of my boots to assist the marshalls in pulling my out of the tyre wall? wink

Cheers guys.

i ran an r6 on trackdays for 4 years, there is nowt like passing the litre bikes. the 1000's can get back past on the straight but then you can out brake them!

in the end though, i have 'upgraded' to a gsxr 750 as it was getting stupid in the end - i found i was pushing the late braking and massive rpm too much.

i havent been on track with the 750 so i cant comment on it yet.

I can relate to that.
The 750 really is a great track bike for me. I don't lose that much in the straights, but don't yet have the balls/skills to outbrake and go for the kill into a corner. I simply don't have the tools to get out of trouble should something unplanned happen.
IMO the 600's run out of puff on the faster tracks, and it's frustrating, as te 750's and the 1000's seem to be pretty nimble these days.
