Decision time do I

a) Ignore the months mortgage payment, overdraft warnings, eating, etc, and order a pair of Daytonas

or b) get a pair of slightly cheaper A-stars Supertechs

Anybody got any experience of either/both and what would they consider best value (are the Daytonas really worth twice as much) or is there another brand that I've overlooked ?

They will mainly be for track use as I'd keep the SMX4 waterproofs for everything else

Have had both Daytona and Alpinestars......sold the A-Stars and have three pair of Daytonas.

If you want track use boots you may want to fork out a little more for Daytona Security Evos they are worth the extra money, but you don't have to take out a loan to get them if you buy from Germany as I have. Here are two links for suplliers in Germany. When I ordered mine they took a week to come over and at the time the Euro price was cheaper than the sterling price over here, but the euro has picked up so the savings won't be as great as they have been.

I have a pair of Security Evos for track use and two pairs of Evo Sports (one Goretex pair and one pair non Goretex), I wouldn't buy any other boots now, also they are very comfortable.

I bought my boots from FC-Moto.de and had no problem at all, in fact the service was excellent. I think you'll find the Euro price €510 (roughly £400 at the moment) for the Security Evos on FC-Moto.de is a lot less than the sterling price typically £600 in the UK. When I bought my Security Evos I only paid £320 inc shipping as the STG/EUR was a lot better a couple of years ago.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Andy

Personally i have only had Astar boots, and am just about to order some new Supertech R's. I'm sure the Daytona boots are superb but couldn't justify the extra expense. Plus i don't like the looks.

When i first chose boots/leathers etc, i just took note of what to GP riders were (generally) wearing. If it was good enough for them it;s certainly good enough for me. Hence all my gear being Astar/Arai.

Of course it's all personal choice and i doubt you'll go wrong either way.

If I was given my kit for free (like the GP stars) then I'd probably be wearing differnt kit, but I have to pay for my own kit so try to buy on value for money as well as performance.

I'd suggest looking for riders who have to pay for their own boots and their choice needs to work. I think the what the club racers wear, not the GP stars, is a better guide.

I picked up a new pair of daytona evos from e bay for £185, if you are prepared to bide your time they do come up. If they hadn't I would have ordered from Germany for £300 ish.
I reasoned that If they made the difference between breaking my ankle or not they were worth every penny.

Yeah, i was only describing my methodology when it came to choosing gear. As said, all the GP guys are sponsored so my well not be the best barometer...

I'd still choose Astar boots though.

Cheers,

Yes, they are all sponsored but that's no implication that the gear isn't up to the job.

As far as the GP stars thing goes, I'd be very very very surprised if their kit comes off the shelf at Hein Gerricke.

Like bikes, its down to personal choice, looks and value. I love my Pumas, and trust em to death as far as my ankles go, but the AStars did a good enough job in the last off that they are still in the cupboard smile

Exactly what this man says.....If you look at most club riders who have a little spare cash they all wear Daytonas, our own Bradley Smith (125 GP rider) was wearing Daytona Security Evos last year, he may well have landed a boot sponsor now but I think that is a good example of a rider wearing Daytonas.

I also believe Glen Richards wears Daytonas.

At the end of the day it's down to choice, but I know what I'll always wear and that's why I have three pairs of them already....Daytona thumbup
