Bloody Italian electrics
Discussion
Right, my Gilera DNA 50 has been fine reliability wise up until this past week. First it just cut out so I pulled to the side of the road and it started straight away. Carried on and then went to get some bits for my Dads bike. Came out of he shop and it would not start. I tried a few things and started to push it home, got half way and it started.
The next day I replaced the plug, cleaned the air filter and adjusted the throttle cable. Everything was fine until I was caught in the rain we had Saturday night when it kept cutting out but as soon as I stopped it would be fine.
Today on the way to college it just cut out and wouldn't start. After a 45 minute push back to my house, I've changed the plug and still no luck. Whenever it cuts out the petrol gauge goes to nothing and the fuel light comes on, this also happens when I try to start it.
Is it an electrical problem (there is a spark) or fuel related.
Thanks, Carl

If it cuts out in the rain, it could be water in the fuel, rather than a damp plug that's causing it to cut out. My SV apparently can suffer from this, although I've never had it. It could also be that the rain is unrelated to your problems and you have fuel starvation because of a dirt blocking the fuel filter etc.
Steve.
Steve.
sounds electrical from here.
ive got no idea where the wires go on those things, but id check all the multi-plugs for corrosion & spray wd40 in them. same with the ignition switch etc.
reminds me of a problem known on 14s, the multiplug from the ECU gets manky & it cuts out randomly or wont start.

It seems to be worse when its wet. When I have washed it the clocks display all sorts of stuff (79mph riding into the garage on a 50) but once I've rode it abit its fine. Someone has said it could be the fuse playing up.
Do you have a wiring diagram for it? That would be an excellent place to start in understanding what might be letting you down. Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
