Get an Optimate.£40 well spent.
So do you have a fix a lead that hangs out the side of your bike to plug into? How does it work? Cheers.
You can clip it to the battery but it is much better if you hardwire a connector. I have fitted a small jack plug under my seat so that I can plug in the optimate much like you would put a mobile phone on charge - my bike lives on the optimate when in the garage.

Only 2 words of warning here;

1. Switch the charger unit off before you plug in or unplug as it can spike some alarms with a sudden volt surge

2. Leave the charger switched off when it's not connected. Just like a phone charger it is a transformer so still uses electricity and also heats up and can be considered a fire risk.

Do both of those, been using the optimate for about 8 or 9 years with no problems, battery is always good, bike starts first time and because battery is good it keeps the electrical system running well (older Ducatis suffer from electrical problems which are made worse if running on low battery).
