I have to go with a dead-heat.

Between a Ducati 999R, with the (included in the price) Termis fitted and a Honda CBX with a 6 into 1 exhaust system.

4/1 on UJMs are just all so samey.

Any 90deg. V-twin assuming a decent set of pipes are fitted. (I’ll even include the 60deg Aprilia in that list.) As to which one, I'm not fussed as long as if it's a Ducati, the clutch is in or it's in gear to avoid the rattle accompaniment.

Back in the early eighties, a mate had a 79 CBX with a 6 into 1 and tweeked cams and a few other minor go-faster bits.....only Jap bike engine that sounded good to me, along with those insane 1960's 6 cyl small capacity Honda race bikes.

And add the following....

Ducati 1098 on termi's
Ducati Desmocedici
Early 1970's MV Agusta 750's
BSA Goldstar DBD34
A pre-unit T120 Bonnie

The racing MVs from the 60's produce a rather nice sound.

Bit of a repeat thread BUT for the record:
Hailwood's Honda RC181 (?)250-6 without question followed by:
Any Grand Prix MV from same era as above & Honda 125 5 cylinder of Luigi Taveri
GP 2 stroke Yamahas-125, 250 etc from same era
Aprilia RS3 "Cube"
2008 Kawasaki ZX RR "Screamer" engine (as on YouTube)
Foggy FP1 World Superbike (R.I.P !)

Sorry you Duke fans but somehow they just don't do it for me-prefer a race-piped RSV to Ducatis

916/996 Ducati
Desmosedici RR (I was next to Randy Mamola when he started up the bike at Goodwood 2 years ago).
6 cyl racing engines

But there's something in my head that says there was a V8 or even a V12 small capacity engine in a bike that sounds fantastic. The video/sound clip is online somewhere but I can't track it down. I think it was the bike that arrives in a big crate and then gets put back in it and sent back to the factory for servicing.

I think you may be thinking of the Moto Guzzi V8 racer from the 1950's, which I forgot to put on my list.

Is this what you were thinking of...?

As I recall it's a regular runner at Goodwood FoS in Sammy Miller's hands.
Awesome is, I think, pretty appropriate.

Correction Honda RC166 was the 250-6.

Ah -the days of no decibel limit GP racing and Open Megga exhausts. If only I was back in the 60's

Suzuki GT 380 with a 3 into 1 Piper exhaust. Honest! Or my current SP1 with Harris Titanium Race Exhaust.

I must be stone deaf, as I don't get this "twins" thing sounding great, they too me just sound flat, as uninspiring as the sound the form Moto Gp bikes in their first year.

Nothing like the sound of a GP 500 Four being warmed up IMO.
