Hi all,

I own an aprilia falco, and have Scorpion Cans. Mate of mine runs an SV1000 with the same exhaust, but have taken out the baffles. We decided to do the same with my bike, mainly cos i wanted to see how it sounded. Took it for a spin, power delivery seemed a bit smoother, and it was loud and proud. My question is this, is removing the baffles a bad thing? have read a few sites that say the reduction is back pressure makes the bike run lean.... which isn't exactly good for the bike. I was under the impression that the scorpion can could run with or without the baffles, with no mods to fuelling etc... can someone set me straight please

i'd stick a PC3 on it and get it set-up properly with a custom map

that's what i did with my fireblade...it has made is much stronger in the midrange and cleaned up the bottom end too

very happy

Phone scorpion and see what they say and this kind of thing depends on the bike/can/ability of ecu to cope.

You've more than likely just invalidated your insurance as a side effect.

How much did that cost you and were your insurers bothered?

PC3 is in pipeline, but not for a while yet. Just spent a wad on the bike, so now out of expendable cash. Its no big deal to put the baffles back in (1 allen bolt) Just wondered if the fuelling would be a problem.

I didn't realise that by removing baffles, my insurance would be affected? Is that because the bike exhaust would no longer be road legal?

I doubt it'd invalidate your insurance unless it was a direct contribution to an accident?

Will not change your third party cover. May be used as an excuse by the insurance company to ‘weasel out’ of paying you the full amount in the event you make a claim for the bike but assuming that you have already declared the cans then I think they would be on very thin ice.

yeah all mods have been declared. they put an extra 15% loading on, but if i was to 'bin' it, they would only replace with standard parts.... buggers!

I've bounced an email off to scorpion to ask them. As I say, no hassle to put them back in, and just wait till i can cover the PC3 & custom map.... and whatever the insurance company decided to add on!

It's worth checking. My company are happy with my can but on the understanding that it's road legal which means that the baffle is in. They said if I removed the baffle the can was not road legal and therefore my insurance would not be valid as I had declared I had a road legal can. I said that was fine and I'd declare that I had a non-road legal can then and they said that in that case they wouldn't cover me so we settle on having the can with the baffle in. Check your terms and conditions, they all seem to be different but they are all specific and you'll either be covered or you won't be.

Cool. I'll have to investigate that. Did it get rid of that occasional little hesitation in power coming off a closed throttle in 1st?

yep it was VERY slightly hesitiant off a closed throttle and wooly below 2.5k

now peachy clean with much stronger midrange too.

worth every penny but then i paid "mates rate" prices, dunno how much the PC3 and custom map will cost to a "normal" punter

Nice one, I'll put it on the christmas wish list... I don't suppose there was any marginal increase in economy I can put in the 'pros' column for the benefit of the wife is there? wink
