Well I've had R6's since they were first released in the UK in 1999, but I am thinking of moving to a CBR600RR.
My riding seems to be going more towards touring than scratching, with half of my miles last year done on a 9 day thrash into the Alps.
I have looked long and hard at the latest R6, but they have just gone too radical for me. (Mine is an 02 plate)
Someone warned me that I would not be as comfy
Any serious comments comparing the earlier R6 with a CBR600RR would be gratefully received.

Won't they be really similar? I'd be tempted to go for a CBR600F for touring, I don't think there's /that/ much in it with the RR.

Early R6 is a lot closer to CBR600F than you think in terms of riding position and performance, I should know. I had a 99 R6 before my 2003 CBR600F. Having said that the 600F is slightly more relaxed riding position than the R6.
A 600RR isn't going to be as comfortable as your soon to be ex R6 let alone a 600F for touring.

Totally agree... I've been looking and sitting on a few bikes as well as doing the general research there wont be much in it in terms of comfort... I've been told the 2004-2006 R6 is pretty much as comfy as you will get on a supersports 600 but I have yet to try one myself to confirm...

The CBR600F is a great bike and ideal for touring just a little bland imho... and thats from a Thundercat rider... wink

Couldnt agree more, and I wouldnt go into this without one. But the foul weather this spring, and work just seem to be getting in the way at the moment.
Really dont want to go for a CBR600F, for some reason .... errr.... I dont know why..... maybe just not got that sporty look and feel.

yes thats what I mean

I had heard that the RR was attemting to be more easy to live with, which is what is attracting me.
I would be looking for an '07 pre reg or an '08

I'd look at bigger capacity bikes - more relaxing.

Thats where I'm heading next year... 1000cc... I really want an R1 as well... hardly any good for touring / commuting though! frown

+1 nice big lazy engine that does the work for you, comfy seat & a lovely comfy position is what you need. gsx1400 with renthals hehe works for me.

Ah... forgot my other problem.... The bike needs to be small to fit in my garage alongside my Exige. I currently have about 2 inches clearance at the front wings

1000cc sports bikes are hardly any larger than 600cc ones. My 2004 R1 is physically smaller than my 2001 R6 was.
