Enjoying this thread, i even took to watching the get your knee down youtube recommendation....and on today's commute? well, lets just say i was giggling in my helmet!! Closer to the tarmac i have never been! what a rush!

dissapointed my knee didnt actually touch down, but then again quite glad - was in textile gearwink

I ride the A4189 through Henley in Arden, Claverdon everyday - thats a great road for learning, plenty of overtaking and some nice bends that can be taken very, very quickly is you wanted. Its actually not the speed i am enjoying so much - as i (tend...) to keep that down cause of all the entrances onto the road, but really enjoying learning to shift my weight - as you practice it actually feels very comfortable to go round bends leaned over, knee out, and i finding i am MUCH quicker than cars, i normally have to sit the bike up when coming up behind a car...I seriously doubt many sports cars would keep up - the bike is just to agile. (thats coming from an ex-cerbera owner!)

And thats two months riding the SV650 - and 8 months on a Honda Varadero.

That video's great.
Regardeless if your trying to get your knee down.
It's improved my cornering loads!

A couple of things which I have incorporated which has improved my riding no end is to throttle blip when downshifting and countersteering which helps to corner the bike so much easier.

Even though I've been riding for the best part of a year (technically 8 months with a winter break in between on the CG125 and Gixxer 6) I still consider myself a newbie and will continue to learn everyday.

Still look back and laugh when I thought 15mph on the CG125 was too fast when I did my CBT last July biggrin

But I think that still learning is different to being a newbie. I would suggest that the day you start doing things like counter steering and correct road positioning without having to think about doing them is the day you stop being a newbie.

And the odd wake-up call is valuable to remind yourself not to be so complacent.
