There's some reasonably feedback from owners on the UKGSers forum

I know a few people who've ridden the the F800GS and liked it, apparently the detuned 650 is a better bike in some situations.

My opinion FWIW; twin cylinder bikes have a more 'raw' feel, more torque at lower rpm for more 'punch' out of corners/through a gap in traffic etc plus they have more 'character' I think twins are easier/more fun to ride, particularly for a newbie and with a small displacement. Look at the SV650 and Ducati Monster 696 etc, they are much more user-friendly than an in-line 4cyl bike with a 12000+ rpm rev ceiling.
I like twins and singles - less is more.....

Seriously Mrs/Mr Fish, consider an older RSV.
You say you don't want a sports bike, I'm betting you'll change your mind after a bit.
I've been looking at cheaper bikes for a good few weeks now and have whittled it down to one of these Aprillias. They seem to be very highly regarded and are very reliable, as long as you use them.
Lot's of neat trick stuff as standard too, ohlins shock, fancy swingarm, trick wheels, brembo brakes etc.
Also reviewed in this months Bike against a ZX7-R and a Triumph Daytona 955 - came out on top.
I'm no expert on em but they do seem really rather good for the money. And remember, they only go as fast as you let them so don't let your inexperience put you off too much. Nowhere near the depreciation of a newer 'run of the mill' bike either.
