So as some of you know I am crocked at the moment and cannot ride, so I am back in 4 wheels and I have in a matter of just a week regained my hatred of scooter riders.

Having observed from the aircon surrounds of the motor in central London rush hour, I can safely say of motorbike riders, I can predict and anticipate what they want to do, they do not force me to make any actions that I wasn't intending on making. They read the road and understand that a signal means a car is making a change of direction and don't put themselves in harms way.

But Scooters ... they must be hard because generally the less safety kit they wear the more reckless they become.

So the list of crimes so far

1 Indicate left and turn right across 2 lanes of traffic without a life saver
2. Ride between 2 artics as the road narrows on the A40, ( that had me wincing)
3 As I indicate to turn left and start turning a scooter rides around the inside of me to carry straight on
4 Jump to the front of the queue in the middle and then proceed in a 50cc GP start wobbling and weaving into both lanes
5. Falling off the bike whilst stationary at the lights ... humiliating
6. Total life saver failure .... never seen a scooter rider use 1
7 Jump in front of a big bike at the front of the queue at the lights

Add your favorite scooter antics to the list

A guy on a scooter flew passed me last week wearing shorts and a T-shirt! He then undertook a BUS which was indicating left and proceeded to ride straight on eek
That said, is see just as many idiots on sports bikes carving through the traffic at over 90mph!

Burnouts on a 50cc with L plates on,
um, what else?
Stupidly loud pea shooter exhausts.
I have a friends who's a mechanic, they get a lot of "chavs" in their garage wanting the gearing repaired or changed & exhausts changed.

One hope natural selection removes these idiots from the gene pool! smile

Totally understand the frustration with scooter riders encounter it ever day. I think they're pretty much up there with that special section of London cyclists too that believe the rules of the road just simply don't apply to them. I do however wish some cyclists who do push passed me at the front of the lights don't stop in front of me - stop in front of the cars idiot!

I did (SS50 actually) and older bikers used to moan about the "moped gang" back then too!

Smiler.

I did (sort of... I had an MZ50 when I was 16)! I really was invincible... and I am still here 15 years later (so it must have been true)! although my super motorbike hero status was prematurely terminated on my 17th birthday when someone torched my beloved bike.

So I had to wait until Jan this year to re-gain my hero status.

Did the SS50 have a fifth gear unlike my Yellow FS1E DX (Disc brake version) I seem to remember some Honda advantage came into play after topping 45MPH.
Must admit though, we rode around in gangs of 6 to 10 ped's together - we must have been bloody pest's but what great fun.

Yep, my SS50 was the 5 speed. With a tail wind it was the fastest amongst all my mates (FS1Es, AP50s a Puch Grand Prix and a Fantic 'something') but without a tail wind it would just about keep up. Give it a head wind and it was the slowest of all!

We also moved around in groups of up to about 10, riding 2 or 3 abreast and always racing each other. We often used to take the mopeds across the local golf course for a bit of ‘trials work’ hehe and would ride around and around the local one-way system all evening stopping occasionally en mass outside the chippy. Looking back, I’m sure we were a right pain in the arse for the locals, especially as most of the HT leads were lacking suppressors (made it go faster!!!!!) and so we must have stuffed everyone’s telly too!

I have noticed around my way that the scooter idiots have reduced in number. Either they have broken their peds or broken themselves. Can’t say I feel to sorry either way.

However there is still one really annoying lad who has survived and so his rather loud ped. He may have developed superior survival skills. I can only hope his ped succumbs to mechanical failure. smile

Ha ha! Reminds me when I took my CBT, there were a few adults 25-35yrs old and the usual gaggle of 16yr olds.

Instructor was running through what to do if he gets caught at a traffic light, carry on a pull up in a safe place. Where is a safe place, over to crowd, 16yr old pipes up, 'the middle of a roundabout'.

I rode around on a Purple FS1E along with my mates. Two had SS50's one of which was the SS50ZB2 Disc braked 5 speeder and the other was a four speeder. The remaining rider had the very rare Gilera Enduro, I was generally fastest but Mick on the SS50 4speed was the best rider. He could keep up with me and easily kept the other two behind him.

When I was on my 50 there was this lad near me. His ped (honda lead I think) didn't even have a seat on it. He would stand up most of the time and sit in the storage compartment to corner. Corners didn't slow him down much though even if there was speed bumps half way round them. He couldn't corner properly as most of the time I was right behind his at about half lean (DNA 50) and he was scraping the stand but that's because he leaned the bike but he tried to stay upright if you know what I mean. But if there was a bump he would hit it (probably at 40ish) while scraping the stand, often on the wrong side of the road to overtake something and then jump to the side a few feet. Saw him a few weeks back and now he's got a 125. Not going near him now as he is mad now he can do 60 lol. Bloody chav.
