Sorry for not responding sooner, don't visit PH's very often now. I get a little itch now and again. Still there is a rather nice car of my son's in the garage, a TVR eater for sure, presently installing a 500 + bhp engine ...............

Engine (4x4 block) has just been rebuilt and with the bolt on bits and management we are expecting 500 +. The car has been stripped out since the pic and a full cage fitted. It weighs about the same as a Chimaera so 500 / ton is going to be a real mean machine. Will have a modded Supra diff to handle the power, the only weak link will probably be the T5 but will use it for the time being. This is the engine you should put in your Chimaera ! it won't sound like a TVR I admit but you will have plenty of boys in ya mirrors !

Love it! I bought one of these in '89 and had it for nearly three years, bloody lovely, a great car to drive. That's an awsome picture a true petrol head cars there! They both look great in their own way! I decided to keep the MX5, and buy something additional to it as a daily. I've just arrived back with a 3.0 Z4. That was a fun trip home!
So, it looks like I won't be joining this section of the forum at all, but on the plus side, I'll have a garaged Mx5 to do stupid things to in the months ahead.

You should have got a Chim. I'd always wanted one or a Griff and sold my Harley D Road King last year to live the dream and bought a 500 off a TVRCC member. Never looked back .... even if I did end up with an unexpected full engine re-build this year! Every time I go into the garage she makes me feel happy. Took a friend out for a drive on Sat' in the sunshine and he said it was the best experience ever. Classic looks, fantastic sound, amazing performance, gorgeous interior, people want to talk to you about the car ... what's not to like for the money? Even when they do go t-ts up the costs are a fraction of what you'd pay for other sports cars offering similar performance. Would never want to use as a daily driver but if you can afford to run one just for fun there's nothing better. I almost bought a Boxter but so glad I didn't. Even my wife (who hates cars) likes a spin in the Chim

I sold my chim earlier this year for a z4. The z4 3.0l is a fantastic car especially with a few mods , replace the run flat tyres, and a zhp gear knob make a massive difference!! I find the engine is lovely so smooth plenty of power and reasonable fuel economy! It makes a great daily driver hence why I sold the tvr I found it to expensive as my only car!!
How ever I miss my chimaera more than any other car I have sold, I find myself looking and lusting at the classifieds every single day! The car has such a sense of occasion! As said above it recieves such positive attention I doubt the only cars that could feel as special and get so much attention would be a super car but how many of us can afford one of them??!! I will be getting another chimaera not sure when tho as I want to get a house next year so not sure when, and once I get a house who knows when il have the money! And I have that fear if I weight to long they will go up in value and I will not be able to afford one!!!

Agree about the values. Firmly believe that those of us that have bought Chims in the past 12 months or so have had great value. It's just not possible for prices to get any lower on these cars - particularly the good ones. Conditions are right for prices to only go one way and that's up - only 6000 ever made and many of those will no longer be with us, timeless design, character, etc etc etc.
The way I see it, it's depreciation free motoring - buy any TVR and it just won't depreciate. Keep hold of it and look after it and who knows they could end up commanding Austin Healey money in years to come.

There's a place for both the Z4 and the Chimaera on the roads....as said above, it depends on your budget, daily driving requirements, what other transport you have and what your mileage and transporting requirements are.
We do 45,000 miles a year between four of us, need to tow a horse trailer and carry people and dogs, so the Chim is strictly come dancing for me.....the six of us (four adults and two kids) share the daily dragsters, which are an Audi A8 diesel for 25,000 business and motorway miles, a Mercedes ML270 diesel as a 10,000 mile shopping car and trailer tower, and an LPG converted 2.9 T6 XC90 seven seater for the 10,000 miles with the kids, grand-kids, dogs commuting around and going on family outings. They are all over 8 years old (the cars, not the kids).
I can see that a Z4 could make a good daily driver, as could the Chim if I wasn't doing silly mileage. For me, the Z4 doesn't come with the Chim's extras - a big PH following and lots of fun things to do with other TVR owners at weekends. I did look at Z4's, but am so I am so glad I bought a Chim.

That is spot on I could not agree more if I had the money and i would have the z4 as my daily and the chimaera for the weekend!
