If my experience is anything to go by, if you are just using the car on the road then it will be fine.
Road use you will only be on boost for a few seconds at a time.
Up to about 400 bhp should be safe on the existing engine etc, above that you may need to be looking at stronger internals.

Also, the higher the boost the more heat it produces.
If you are planning on doing track days with your new power, then you will need to sort your cooling, certainly water, but particularly oil.
An oil temperature gauge is your friend.
Track use you will be on the boost a lot and the temperature builds up.
Go over 125C oil temperature and you risk permanent engine damage.
Also fully synthetic oil is the way to go in this case, as it will stand the higher temperatures.

Go number chasing at your peril. It's very tempting, we are all overgrown school kids at heart smile
Lots of people talk about 500-600 bhp, and the torque with a turbo is a lot higher (when mine had 395 bhp, peak torque was 525 lb ft for example)
Very possible to get big numbers, but at that boost level it develops a lot of heat and puts a lot of stress on the power train.
What some people tend not to tell you about is their engine rebuilds shortly after telling you about their power numbers.
Necessary to strengthen the power unit, clutch or gearbox etc, and you may need bigger injectors, fuel pump etc.

You can have a lot of cheap fun with 400 bhp.

Possibly guilty as charged, but engine rebuilds tend to come with your well documented career of drag racing ace.
You have been breaking engines for as long as I have been on PH, and you turbocharged your car to be more competitive.
You know the risks re engines probably better than anyone.
And I doubt that heat is really an issue for you, because 9 seconds at full throttle whistle isn't likely to be get the oil that hot.

No, I was more thinking of those warm weather and no rain owners who turbo charge or supercharge for the bragging rights.

^^^^ Now, my ears are burning. No bragging rights here, just wanted to build the very best I could and did. Still going strong apparently too. Once again I repeat, people build a particular car for what 'they' get out of it and not what others think they should be doing with it. I prefer to actually go somewhere and even in rain rather than round and around in circles risking all my work as a pseudo racer. You just can't help yourself can you. I really thought this sort of st was well in distant past.

I'm not actually sure where all these cars are that have had turbo / sc installs and then need a rebuild. I've seen plenty of boost-converted cars over the years and to the best of my knowledge (admittedly my memory is pretty poor) I can't think of any that have had a turbo or sc and then needed a rebuild afterwards ...
