Clutch slips then grips
Discussion
On the clutch thing I guess its load over area.. the bigger the area the more distribution you get of the pressure... so the smaller the area as in the paddle clutch, the higher the pressure under the paddles... and it's all about pushing the plates into contact to get your drive... but the easier it is to break the friction between the plates (as you don't have as much area) the more they behave like a on / off switch and not a variable clutch...
Same as thin tyres on a Land Rover are better for off roading as they load better... wide tyres are useless as they distribute the weight....

Hey i have never sold you a clutch? if i had there is not a chance i would have sold you one saying it was rated at 500ftlb, there is not a 9.5" organic plate on this planet that would hold that power, you would need a paddle, also why would i not think you would make 500ftlb, i have seen 700+ sorry bud but i am confused????
Sorry my mistake then I thought you were v8 developments thats who I bought the clutch from got my reciept here. Explained what I wanted it for totally in every detail..and this was recommended to me for 500lbft so I thought it would have some leeway above this.Annoying was the fact I paid more than normal because they asked Helix to put some stronger springs in than that are normally supplied.
What company are you then v8 racing...maybe I should of seen you for my clutch
Regards Rob

Hey Neal does this mean i get money back too. I was also mis-sold.
I reckon i put over 450 lb/ft through this plate when i ran my 11.2
Are you positive it wasnt an uprated item?

Hi Neal, well what do i say!!, i used to work for v8 developments as the grease monkey, cutting a long story short for several reasons i am now a partner since last christmas, one thing i cant handle in my work life is bad publicity, if people think i am a tt thats fine i can handle that, if people think i am the guy they want to be mates with thats fine too, but i hate bad publicity, one reason for becoming a partner is so i have more control over what is happening and what is going out the doors, there are several helix clutches we do rated from 350=500 ftlb, the clutch in this thread is only rated at 350, the fact it held out to 490 is amazes me, i truelly dont know what has happened and why you where given that clutch, but i am happy to componsate you, can you pm the invoice please and any corespondence with v8 and i will sort things out for you.

So the new clutch is in and the cars up and running.
First thoughts after a very short test drive.
Yes a little grabby and some judder on quite an early biting point but overall ok.
The pedal actually feels lighter than the last set up.
A 120 mile trip to York tomorrow should get it bedded in and my left leg trained.
Then its onto the strip on Sunday to try and break those racefailed driveshafts
If they hold out and the angine behaves with 150 shot of nitrous i think there will be a run very close to the 10 club
And no LS........ yet.
That will be when i decide i want to run 9's

It's a helix 4 paddle clutch , so going to go for the same as sideways as it was so nice and light., glad it's now off the road to get some jobs done. Had the clutch out in 1hr20
I found the hardest part about doing a clutch is replacing the nylon washers in the gearstick linkage just remember there are two plates and sets of splines to line up before you can slide the box back on
