I'm not so sure. I'm pretty confident it is a simple starter/solenoid issue and the alarm is a bit of a red herring in my case. That may prove to be wishful thinking but I'm willing to take that chance for now.Having an alarm/immobiliser fitted certainly clouds the issue and complicates the diagnosis but often the simplest explanation for a problem is the correct one.

If you can hear the starter solenoid click but the starter motor fails to spin it's likely to be one of these things.
1. The solenoid command wire isn't delivering enough amps to fully throw the solenoid
2. The weedy & excessively long battery to starter motor lead is dead
3. You have an earthing problem
4. The solenoid itself is on it's way out
5. The starter motor is sticking or has an abnormally high internal resistance
6. Your battery is dead
First try briefly putting a screwdriver across the the solenoid terminals to see if the starter spins.
Next take a long jump lead directly from the battery negative terminal to one of the starter bolts to eliminate an earthing issue, then try cranking it on the key.
Finally take a long jump lead directly from the battery positive terminal to starter motor main terminal and again see if it spins.
These simple tests quickly should tell you where the fault is.

No longer weedy - but every bit as long.. Replaced by PO with something I could jumpstart a jet with!

I checked as best I could today, they're all solidly tight and clean. Car is a genuine 20k miler "never seen rain" example and is as close to immaculate as I could wish... But I know a visual inspection is not comprehensive enough.

Daz that lower LED is for the factory fitted alarm I just removed the factory fitted one and screwed in the Cobra supplied LED along with its new loom it should flash only when the vehicle is armed or when it goes into passive arming but should not glow, just to clarify this one caught mid flash
Ok i could pull the other one off ! i wonder why it stays alight (DIM) when the alarm is off.

Summary of fault finding....
Replaced:
Coil, Ignition amp, sparkplugs and still had starting problems.
Added injector cleaner to fuel and it started up. (fuel was not old).
Still slight miss-fire under load so replaced plug leads.
Now running OK.
