Dear all,

The S01's on the front of the Griff have seen better days. At 215/50/15/ZR's .... I cannot get S03's to replace them with. I am inclined to trade up to 225/45's or 225/50's but am not certain whether this may be detrimental to handling/ride height etc ????

Any views gratefully appreciated

Cheers

Makes little difference. The 225/50 tyre is fine on a PAS car but a bit heavy on a non-pas car. There is a Excel tyre size comparison spreadsheet on my web site if you want to what the %age differences in speeds etc between different tyre and wheel sizes.

Not to worry Griffmad, I`ve fited 245/45/15... S.O.2`s on the front with no pas and no adverse effects save a touch more effort when parking.

I've got 225/50 S03s on the front of my non-PAS Griff, and can't feel any difference at parking speeds. I fitted them to cure a tendency toward understeer in the dry, and haven't had any problems at all.

245 on 7" rims? Wow! I'm glad it works for you, but I'd be cautious about recommending this to other people. I've tried quite a few combinations now and I'm sure 245 is way, way too wide for those 7" rims. In fact I think it's really too wide for the 7.5" rear hubs, although they are used as standard. I would suggest a maximum of 205 on the front and 225 on the rear. I find that when you fit wider tyres they distort, the sides of the tread pick up and you don't get the extra contact patch width you're paying for. The result is a tyre that hops all over the place under heavy cornering loads, and doesn't actually produce any more grip than the narrower tyre.

Incidentally, the S03 seems to give a wider contact patch for the same nominal width, compared to the S02. When I changed from 245 S02pp to 225 S03pp, the actual contact patch width stayed the same but it looks and feels far better. Recommended.

Just about to have corn flakes and read about Timmy at the tennis when I read P.H.instead.

My error , they are not 245`s on the front,
the`re 225`s.

Sorry to confuse the issue.
