I find that I get perfect radio reception when the engine isn't running but as soon as I start her up it deteriorates. Has anyone tried fitting a capacitor across the alternator to remedy this? If so, how successful was it?

Could check the earth? I had a hot hatch that did similar. I ran a direct (good size wire) direct to the battery earth terminal. Solved the problem.

Mine suddenly started doing this a few weeks ago as I was pootling down the M1. Very little signal coming out, swamped by a buzzing noise that matched the engine speed. I put up with it for several days and then set to with a meter to check for faulty earths, screening fallen off and so on. Turned out I'd accidentally changed it from FM to MW as I changed gear, changed it back and hey presto good as new. How stupid did I feel?

Fitted the a supressor across the alternator last night but it doesn't seem to have made much difference.
Can someone please tell me where the radio antenna is in the car and how to get to it?

aerial is on the passenger side around the door, if you open the little hatch by the lock you should see it.
