Recently bought a 96 Chim 500, very nice indeed. Sports exhaust sounds phenomenal on the open road, but is a wee bit OTT in central London. So here are the questions :

1) Anyone know if it is possible to have the baffles put back IN the box? And where is cheap?
2) Anyone know a cheap place to get a new 'standard' exhaust? Seems a shame to junk the existing one mind you.
3) Anyone in the London area want to swap their standard exhaust for my sports one? Reasonable nick obviously! Is this a dunb idea?

Car also has a wooden steering wheel; very attractive but I guess I prefer a chunky leather one - I gather the standard item is a MOMO one, but can't seem to find them on the web - any ideas for a supplier?

Final question for you real experts - the engine is a 500HC and has purple rocker covers - is there any significance behind the colour? Can't find any reference in the Steve Heath book or elsewhere.

Cheers!!

Talk to Richard @ Peninsula in Collumpton, he does a very descreet and easily removed gadget that slides down the end of the exhaust which is fully adjustable for whatever noise you whant, plus it's reasonabley cheap.

Not sue if the exhaust on a 400HC is the same, but Id be up for swapping if it is. Maybe even the stering wheel also. I was thinking about making mine louder anyway.

To be exact... purple covers were only standard fit on all 500s that had purple covers on them...

I have also seen lesser engines with purple covers so this tell tale is not that reliable. Just like the engine size plate and so on.

Hi

I have a 97 500 and would be interested in a swop. I live in North London. Not sure on the condition of my exhaust, only had the car a few months

Hi Murd,

Email address: bigjarvxxx@hotmail.com

Give me a shout if you don't manage to sort out the swop with Dave. In the meantime I will crawl underneath and see what state my exhaust is in.

Jarv.
