According to the pictures in The Bible I have a GKN diff on my 97 500. I was a bit surprised because it also said that generally the BTRs were used from 1996 onwards.

Also someone referred to the BTRs as "unburstable", so what do the GKN ones do? Are they a bit weak?

Is this just a normal TVR "whatever we fit today is today's standard"?

the btr diffs are an australian unit as used in big torquey Holden V8s etc .. think of something as heavy as a vauxhall senator but with a 4oo bhp engine and you get the picture. the gkn diff always leaks and bearings wear but the good news is the factory have them so no waiting for replacements .. unless I happened to have just fitted the last one they had of course ...!

The GKN doesn't always leak... it stops when it's run out of oil.

So basically you're saying that a very regular check and top up of the diff is a good idea, better than just waiting until the next service?

Thanks
