Couldn't agree more Alun.

It's important to see 'Ol Gasbag' for what it is, really she's nothing more than a full de-cat 4.0 litre Chimaera with a Stealth cam and a lightened flywheel that drives nicely and delivers an average petrol cost equivalent of 45-50mpg depending on the difference in price between the two fuels on any given day at the station I choose to fill up at.

Thousands of Range Rovers and Discovers with the same Rover V8 engine have been converted to run on LPG, and most of them are converted when they've already done 70-80k miles and then go on to achieve a similar mileage again burning gas. So while the Canems dual fuel engine management system offers some clever features, fundamentally there's nothing especially ground breaking about a Rover V8 running on LPG and is a totally proven practice that delivers complete reliability and engine longevity.

I'm not really a racer and with the car only delivering the power and torque that TVR claimed it did when new I'm in no doubt I'd be severely embarrassed on the strip by all the big HP guys, the extra weight in the boot may help a bit off the line but it'll also quickly become a penalty further up the strip. My guess it I'd be lucky to drop below 15 seconds which would probably make for a good laugh for some, with this in mind and given quarter mile times aren't really what I've been aiming for with 'Ol Gasbag' I think I'll pass on the whole drag racing thing, especially as my diff really needs re-bushing so I fear brutal launches aren't exactly what what 'Ol Gasbag' needs right now.

But here's wishing all the drag racing high HP boys a great day, may you all achieve your target times and return home safely without engine damage and nothing broken in your drive train.

You had to go and ruin it by mentioning engine wear and drive train loss, wink
Engine wear occurs everytime I start it up
Accelerating from 0-100 a few times isn't going to destroy my car,,, if it does the car was ready to break then!
It's ok to sit in traffic for an hour on a hot day but it can't muster a few runs up a straight road,, I don't get that at all!
Derek and the big boys use proper tyre's, accelerate away like men possessed, it's great, I don't need to though, my cars not powerful enough, do it right with the old Rainsports and it's not a big deal. Sod burnouts, thats for the pro's wink

Honestly if a Tvr can't go up the strip 4 or 5 times without blowing up it's not worth a toss.
I understand you have no need for this with your car as your building it for your needs but accelerating from the lights to the ton is a very child like thing to do and a great laugh in a Tvr as it's rather good at it biggrin
Enjoy your weekend mate smile

Got the driver's door card off to bolt in a new driver's door mirror......then realised that i could have done it without removing the door card, so did the passenger side one without. silly

Corrado mirrors fitted (as per late Griffs and T cars). German quality so much better than French, but the wiring is different. My friendly electrician got it all working, but now down is up and up is down, if you see what i mean. It's a TVR - so it may well end up upside down anyway. whistle

They look great, always quite fancied a set of those of per the last 100 Griffs.

Well, a decent pair from a VW breakers is around £50. The adaptors (between mirror and door) are £82 from Fibreon, and they cover the big round hole in the door. But if you are fitting them at the same time as a respray you could just get the door holes filled in and then attach the mirrors straight to the door. It would look better IMHO. Then you just need to work out the wiring, as the Corrado ones have an extra wire and how they wire depends on the age of your car. I can send you more details.

Mirror glasses are under a tenner on EBay and come in a variety of choices: plane, convex, panaromic, clear, tinted etc etc.

And with a blue tint which is very useful in reducing the glare from headlights.

I emptied the garage. Well, when I say I emptied the garage I mean I took the 2 cars out of it.

I took them and one of the every day cars for an MOT. That's two 17 year olds and a 47 year old.

All passed. The only one I had to fettle and resubmit was the Chim. Why? Because the new headlights (MK3 conversion by a well known specialist) were set too high, the sidelight bulbs had blown and the emissions ( with the precats in and main cat removed) were failing CO target of 3% by 0.01% banghead

One Italian tune up later and some removal of wheels and covers messing with headlights and it was 3 for 3.

Yes, I know the garage door is bent. It was like that when we moved into the house and I've been meaning to get it fixed but as always with a new house other things get your attention. Like "interesting 1970's wiring and plumbing.

Opened me bonnet and me wallet, turned me back for five minutes, and some geezer has dumped a load of spare plumbing in me engine bay, and then some other geezer has nicked me distributor and AFM. Wot's the world coming to? whistle

I did the same, as well as an oil change and a tinker with the suspension height. Spa here we come.

Well done QBee, fantastic. I'm not the only one who has had his wallet emptied then. Maybe time for some exhaust wrap? Turbo cover?
Going to be a lot of heat in there with your 3 stage map especially when passing Phazed on the track hehe

There is a cover on the far part of the turbo. Do I need one on the near bit?
I will discuss exhaust wrap with Phazed and Mat the Smith - the latter has not suggested it, and when I was running the engine in with the turbo active it stayed remarkably normal, oil pressure around 40 psi and temps as when the car was non-turbo.
It does have an intercooler and an oil cooler.
Thanks for your thoughts - I will monitor it all with care.

Whilst some of you fellas are busy building monsters and polishing and primping, for us mere mortals the long fight to prevent our cars spontaneously disassembling themselves continues. banghead

Seeing as the sun came out I thought it would be rude not to get something done- into the boot, replace all the old bulbs for newer brighter ones, job jobbed. Nope. Turns out the near side light cluster didn't want to be a part of TVR anymore and was in the process of making good it's escape. Out with the sikaflex!!!

'Look mum I'm in a TVR!'

(Apologies if this image haunts your dreams)

Wasn't long before I unearthed one of the mythical TVR factory worker messages...

It's okay though because I had assistance!

'No chance...'

'Should have bought a porker...'

Stubborn sikaflex 1 cheap applicator 0

A trip to B&Q later...

And job done! I think I've earnt a quick hoon once that lot dries... driving

What did I do in the garage?

Nothing, the car is on the drive laugh

Cracked on with some work on Wendy.

Passenger manifold off. New one trial fitted to check it, er, fits. All ok.

Trumpets shortened by 20mm and base sent off for cleaning up.

Plenum heater by passed.

Various redundant holes filled and captured nuts bonded in to hold various intake bits.

Passenger headlamp pod repaired.

TD inserts trimmed and fitted. Tailpipe ends trimmed and fitted.

Driver's side manifold unbolted but the starter motor won't budge. Left it with some penisatrating oil and will attack with breaker bar.

Prepped a few minor bits of trim for spraying and passivating.
