My fking swirl pot has split along the seam in the middle of it, is this a first as I can't find any other mentions of it?

Is this just a pressed together join, it doesn't look welded? Going to try and bodge it up for a couple of weeks as I need the car and have no time to work on it, it's just been one stupid thing after another this year irked

I have never heard of one splitting.

Put up an, "urgently needed swirlpot" thread.

You never know what's sitting in people's garages.

Ta matey, I appreciate it but I've bodged it up for now and it shouldn't take 10 mins to get someone to weld it up, it'd be a waste to throw it away thumbup

Just think that it's weird that all the other bits have been welded but this join in the middle looks like some sort of rolled, pressed seam.

So decided to get stuck in today. Jacked her up on to 4 axle stands and removed the exhaust system. Then removed the propshaft - leaking from gearbox output seal. New seal on its way. New Hardy Spicer couplings ordered too - no play or wear but while its off may as well replace them as they only cost a tenner each. New exhaust mounting bobbins ordered for the exhaust support plate - destroyed by oil leak.
Then decided to reinstall my clutch servo which I'd removed as there was soooo much heat under the bonnet. No room in the front wing unfortunately.
As you can see, its now in the boot. Got it properly bolted down and vac pipe connected. Fitted a stainless NRV at the plenum and there is a plastic one on the servo too. Hydraulics tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) and waiting for a new clutch slave to fit too to complete the job.

Won't the location of that servo get in the way when storing the roof in the boot?

Just about to do this and mount my servo in the boot as well.

Can you tell me the sizes of the fittings required at the servo end?

No, checked it and plenty of room wink I know the rear end on the 95 on cars is Cerb like but assume the boot is still the same size?

The servo is the MGB Hive one (by Powertune). The male brake pipe unions are 3/8th" x 24 UNF.

I'm using Kunifer, not plain copper pipe, as its stronger and more corrosion resistant. thumbup

OK. Sorry. I only asked as I located the battery there thinking it was out of the way but although the roof goes in it pushes it forward on that side causing me to have much less space in the boot as the roof won't sit vertical against the petrol tank as it won't wrap around the end of the tank.

I intend to move it to where it should have been in the first place - Above the tank.

No need for an apology - good question! When I put the roof in the boot I never have it vertical. I lay the bottom edge to the rear of the boot and lean the top against the fuel tank. The luggage bags are then under the roof, maybe not ideal but we manage.

You're welcome. I got a length of brake pipe already made up with those fittings in the servo kit. You can cut them off and use them unless you only got the servo on its own?

I know it is tight in the front wing, but it does fit if you persevere with it.

I nearly gave up and thought of sticking it in the boot too, but it just felt wrong there, and like you said, I was worried about dropping the roof onto it or something else.

You have to take the canister out first though and I recommend not trying to connect to the master cylinder in the wing, but do both connections underneath, next to the slave, and leave the pipe in that goes up to the master.

That way, if you need to change back for whatever reason, its just a case of taking the pipes off and moving the connections around.
