Stripped drivers door down.
Lubed the window windy gear, works now!
Striped down the electric mirror connector as mirrors were dead.
Fixed a couple of faults, cleaned corroded terminals and hey presto, working mirrors!

4 hours for all that mallarky plus a deskinned elbow frown . My arm only just fits through the speaker aperture and became stuck on a couple of occasions!!!! If you've done it before then you'll know what I mean.

Found some Renovo plastic screen cleaner/ reviver, well pleased with the result.

Took car out for a 50 mile mostly Surrey lane spin. It never ceases to amaze me how fast this car is when motoring down country lanes. The acceleration which must be sub 4 seconds makes the acceleration out of corners seem mental, (up to the national speed limit of course).
The handling is superb and even though I have deep thoughts about a stablemate for the chim, what's out there, pretty much nothing else will match it, ( apart from in safety equipment biggrin) so what's the point?

Faffed about changing relays, resetting immobiliser, to try and get a non-starting Chimaera to awaken. Had the embarrassment of having to turn up to a local group run in a German car!

Can't hear the fuel pump at all, but replacement is beyond my limited abilities so time to call in a mobile mechanic.

Have you checked the fuel pump terminals? They are in all the garbage flying up off the road, so worth a clean up.
However, it sounds like an immobiliser problem to me. Were you having problems before this non-start at home?

In some ways it was fortunate that it was at home. I'd been out for a drive, left it running whilst I went inside to get the garage keys and to give it an opportunity to cool down (fans were on) and when I came back out it had stalled and wouldn't restart. Had no problems at all with it beforehand.

Turns over nice and strong, battery is well charged, plenty of fuel.

In another way, it was unfortunate that it didn't happen whilst I was out as I could have called out the AA and they possibly could have fixed it or at least diagnosed the fault. Alas I had deleted the "home start" option last year as I thought what a waste of money, never used it in years.

Have also checked the fuses and looked at the fuel pump and twiddled the wires (more in hope than anything else!). I've also disconnected the battery, waited ten minutes and reconnected and immediately activated the plipper. But all to no avail.

I'm afraid that my limited mechanical knowledge means I've ran out of options...

As you cannot hear the fuel pump priming, it is going to be immobiliser related, or a lead off the pump I think.

Easy to check the latter if you can jack the car up, wheel off if you prefer, get ready by the car, find the fuel pump terminals, get someone to turn the ignition on, and fiddle with the terminals. You will hear if you make contact,

I had a similar issue where I couldn't here the fuel pump. I too thought it was the mobiliser but after tracing the wiring I discovered it was the connector plug under the Velcro flab behind the passenger seat. It's quick to check my post at the time is here.

Half way through this lovely job replacing reflectors and lenses, what's the best bulbs to fit these days I searched a few threads but couldn't find any up-to-date information.

Thanks for the information Anthony, I have been doing a bit of research and found Philips are now doing a H4 bulb that they claim is 150 time's brighter and gives an extra 80m of vision, which I think I will give a try.
I was curious about led but they don't seem to be readily available so I assume they are still not legal.

I have Xenon bulbs in my Volvo.....bloody awful. Make my TVR lights look good.
Ditto the projector lights in my Saab. Equally bloody awful.
Many of the supposedly more modern lights seem to give too diffuse a light.

I think you mean 150% of the brightness.

In incandescent bulbs I like the Osram Nightbreaker range.

Read CoG thread on LEDs. But H4 bulbs are not quite there yet.

I think you could be right about the brightness, unfortunately the bulbs I found only have a 6 month guarantee and I don't want to be changing bulbs again to soon as it's a bit of a pita job.
I did read Cog thread but although no doubt very good, still not legal as far as I'm aware.

I was quite impressed with a HID conversion kit i fitted to my daily which did have projector style headlights though.
Not strictly legal but no issues Mot time.
Wondered has anyone tried something like this, again not strictly legal but would be interesting to know how they perform.

Changed oil and filter,,, last week but wanted to get a feel for the car before posting.
Mixed a litre of classic 20/50 mineral oil into my 10/40 semi synthetic mix.
Very quite Engine indeed.
Very impressed with both the engine oil pressure and the lack of any rattles from either little end or cam train especially on overrun.
That’s a first smile
