Crankshaft pulley needed please
Discussion
Bad idle, engine leaping around a bit, Had tried to tune it out to no avail(Previous owner had installed a stroker kit to the 302c.i engine which increased the c.i to 5.7).
Drove it up and spoke to Steve and booked it in. He took out the imbalance (which there was a lot!) in situ by removing and adding metal from the Flywheel and damper and pulleys and gave me a graph showing the difference.
I was very impressed with the difference the car drove really well after his attention Impressive state of the art equipment and expert knowledge

ah right so probably no good for me as I have already run the engine without ancilliaries and had all moving parts balance. The pistons are within half a gram of each other as are the con rods.
It should be as smooth as silk as everything that moves had been balanced and its definitely an engine issue not transmission.

If the engine is internally balanced is the harmonic balancer/pulley assembly neutrally balanced? Is the harmonic balancer the rubber type, if so check the integrity of the seals between the outer ring, the rubber and the central core. The outer ring on mine was sliping slightly which showed up during ignition timing adjustments. Checked, substituted and not the problem but thanks. My latest plan if the balancer is buggered is to change it, but retain the metal back plate with weights. Theory being the balancer is err... balanced, and the back plate if not changed in orientation will keep the offset of weights correct.
If this doesnt work i may call in the balance experts to balance in situ, i dont want to have to strip the engine down just to balance the crank.

Can i ask what kind of cost that was?Drove it up and spoke to Steve and booked it in. He took out the imbalance (which there was a lot!) in situ by removing and adding metal from the Flywheel and damper and pulleys and gave me a graph showing the difference.

Have since figured out that the engine is a V8 developments replacement, and its internally balanced. Someone put the original 500 pulley back on which is not neutrally balanced (but was used to balance the assembly externally on a 500 engine).
So going to removed the rear plate with welded weight, hopefully this should sort the enginer vibration. After that i guess its time to check the flywheel to see if its been drilled/weighted.
Anyone know if its possible to remove the flywheel whilst the engine and box are still in the car?
