re-veneering dash project - advice

So my dash has some veneer cracks and worse, bits that have fell off. So it's time to fix it!

I'll strip them back to the metal, buy some veneer (flat not burr), bond it on and vacuum it. The dash/radio dash aren't flat but concave so can't use g-clamps etc.

The vacuum part is my concern but I've an idea to use a tyre tube deflator tool connected to a large zip lock type bag (modified) and purge all the air out. Here's what I'm thinking

Will it create a decent vacuum?

Hi,

Got mine done by London Carriage Craft earlier this year.

Both the radio and main dash panels are actually flat once you get them off and get all the bits out.

Best to order some spare LEDs as at least one with break trying to get them out.

didn't think they were flat, that should make life a lot easier

They're flat enough that a thin towel beneath and a pile of big books on top should do it.

I glued carbon fibre onto mine and did exactly this.

Don't forget to key the surface so that there is a texture for your glue to hold on.

Of course, if it all goes bad, the instruments will hold it on!
