I think this is great
I love my V8 - but what's not to like?
Great handling, an inline 6 giving high power and great throttle response, plus reliability with a 2 year warranty - sounds like the perfect recipe for a British sports car to me..?
And I love the wheels
I reckon someone will get an awesome car...

TVR qoute 400hp .. What do they produce on the rollers or are most speed six owners to worried its going to blow
A Speed Six is meant to be pretty reliable once rebuilt. There are also some good warranties on rebuilt units. I like the V8 sound, but I also like the Speed Six sound. Some offer 4.3 and 4.5 variants, which offer very good power potential with the ability to rev nicely. It would be a tempting replacement for a knackered RV8, however, I wonder if doing this would work out similar to installing an LS, where parts are more plentiful. It does keep it a true, NA TVR though!FastRich said:

There will be plenty of scrap engines ready to rebuild if you fancy it .. Must admit i was impressed with the Tamora ,it seems to drive much better . Would be tempted with a 4l or larger in a Tam .Biggest problem they seem to be going up in value very quickly .

Why would anyone take possibly the best thing about a Chim (the noise) and replace it with an S6? (The S6's don't sound bad at all, but they're just not right in a Chim, IMHO)
I can imagine the Fernies salesman.... "Here we are sir, this Chimaera only has 3/4 of an engine but we think that's special so we're going to charge you 3/4 more to buy it"
Surely the point of an engine transfer is to upgrade it, certainly in terms of reliability? The Buick/LR V8 isn't a delicate lump, even at the worst of times but nor is it the most powerful so for me, the obvious upgrade would be an LS engine, not a troublesome S6!
Both RG and powers S6 rebuilds are solid and reliable. The 4.3 S6 should be VERY quick indeed, the revvyness and the noise should be perfect for a small roadster like the chim. The tam chassis is stiffer and has the updated shorter wishbones that gives excellent handling. In 2003 the chassis paint/rust problems were almost non-existent...I can imagine the Fernies salesman.... Change the wheels to image or RL7 17" and its an awesome car

Agreed - it is perfect for a small roadster LIKE a Chim, but it is not perfect FOR a Chim. It's like putting a 3.0 V6 Tdi in a Jensen Interceptor. It'll make it quiet, smooth and economical for the long contintnetal journeys but it doesn't make it right in any way, it removes the character which everyone fell in love with and which gave the car it's cult following.
Don't get me wrong, I like, no love, the S6 engine; I think its a superb powerplant and I agree the Re-builds are more reliable than the OE engines but they're still more fragile than the Rover V8 and they just don't sound right for a 90's TVR. IMHO.
