I converted mine from a manual rack although a very early car so could be different . However are there any numbers on your existing manual rack that I could check against the rack that I removed. They will be cast into the rack body. If its the same I have the TVR part numbers for track rods and ends I used.

Mine was a 95 manual rack and these were the correct track rods.
Check your old ones first they may fit.

I will take that pump if anyone doesnt want it and am happy to wait a while as it will only be a spare for mine.

Off we go then

Idle contemplation moves to planning... the rack part no. given earlier in Wuckfit's photo was 34110 FE060 / 510-01704

Can't find this anywhere on ebay but plenty of variants:

FE610 (looks like 05-07 models - 'wide track' models?)
FE560 - common
FE000 (98-05 - B52/STi correct?)
FA080 (but listed as 93-01 WRX STi)

Hard to tell if they have the splitable pinion housing as they're all filthy!

Costs for the few FE060 listings are now £150 + shipping! The others range from £50 - £100

Can we be more specific on the donor cars, as the OE parts suppliers (OK,. probably ££££'s but I like a comparison) also won't quote without a firm spec., reg. or chassis No.

Looks like it. It is the early one that fits up to about 2001 so it probably is.

Do you try that Jap car parts. Mine was immaculately clean when I purchased it from them over the counter and didn’t require any refurbishing. Maybe I was lucky!

Got a line on a specialist breaker through another scooby parts outfit, haven't had a chance to get on the jap parts lead yet.

No hurry. I live in a flat and the bedroom currently has a box of parts on the floor waiting to go on the daily shed. There's a refurbished arb arriving from the powder coater later this week... If a subaru rack appeared I think I'll be divorced

I collected the 30 quid ebay one today (via the 'pod). It seems sound but needs a damned good wire brush and a makeover.

Q

When I rotate the pinion housing the oil lines won't line up so will need replacing, fine, Pirtek will do that

But

Surely, with a 180 deg 'out of phase' rotation the rotary valve out will be the in and left will be right and vice versa, so the Pirtek guys will have to be careful to match it all up properly...

If your careful you can re bend the existing lines yourself. Fiddly but that's what I did with the rack in a vice.
If not then just mark the port/pipe with white paint so they can't get it wrong.

The Tvr rack should have had plastic spacers to stop this, they just limit the movement.
They sit under the rubber boots between the rack body and the steering rod ends.
Mine were around 7 mm wide, can't quite remember exact diameter.

Daz I think from memory,I fitted rubber washers on the end of the rack to limit the travel . Mine does not hit the chassis.

These were optional fit from TVR depending on wheel width fitted 7" Vs 7.5" IIRC 16" all round on the later cars for example where as earlier cars rims were a staggered width thumbup these could be purchased at one time I have had mine for so long I can comment regarding availability though
