I am struggling to find a chimaera with ac fitted. Has anyone had it fitted and if so how much? Also does the standard ac fitted by tvr work?

Not retrofittable to earlier cars. Can be fitted for around 2 grand to later ones. Yes can be good.
Alternative is to take the roof off.

I was lucky enough to find a Chimaera that had A/C fitted from new and yes it really is effective and controllable. Well worth it if you can get it. I love hood down motoring as much as the next TVR nut , but if you use it as your everyday car there are plenty of occasions when you don't want to take the roof off.

Don't forget the non-summery days. AC has a de-humidifier, clearing the rear window in about 1 minute.

Yes do it. I had it retrofitted to my new 450 and its a godsend particularly on those hot wet sticky days like the last few weeks. Cost £2k plus a bit but all original TVR bits used. It take a while to get going but once down to temp it delightful to sit in particularly when stationary on the M25 on friday night.

When you've got the aircon pump it makes it difficult to get to the alternator to check it.

I know as I have just had to strip the alternator off to get repaired.

Aircon does work o.k though, but tends to make the electric window controls colder than everything else!!

Can you expand a bit on that pls Steve? Mine's a '95 Griff & I've been thinking about retrofitting AC.

All depends if you have the air con version of the heater and ducting fitted. The problem is that the changeover wasn't clean and without looking you can't easily tell if it is or not. I would guess that a 95 would not have the air con compatible stuff though but its a guess based on how many pigeons fell off my window ledge this morning. I think it is applicable to post 96 cars mainly.

Steve
PS One more and it would have been yes...

I just found my new decision randomiser. Any chance of a web-cam of your window ledge, Steve?

possibly a dumb question coz I don't know how much a/c adds to resale value, but might it not be cheaper to buy the black one and respray it, rather than buy a car with the right colour and fit a/c?

Yes Yes thanks for that, I have done that I just whondered if there was anyone alse who specialised in doing this as the last time my car went to a dealer it went back twice to be fixed and re sprayed afterwards needless to say not very impresed.
