I guess they also did not put a smaller pipe inside that pipe, that way more straight and stronger and perhaps also easier to weld (thicker)
I got the stainless riggers from Verpoorten. Smaller inner tubes was with the kit, we welded it with a 300 amp TIG after it was sandblasted. The blasting made the welding a bit difficult, we think because of microscopic particles in the metal after blasting... but its done now and looks very strongthen the welds were polished down with a fine rotary stainless steel brush, epoxy primer on, then 3 layers of polyurethane 2 pack paint. Put on with a brush, not spray. Not the prettiest job but wont rust!
forgot to say that we had to make up a jig to make sure the riggers fit perfectly in the bodyholes! Some of the holes in the riggers was a bit off and has to be doublechecked before painting! I also believe these good TIG welds are impossible with the body on or even with a 2" lift. Theres just no space.
And if the riggers are rusty then theres bound to be rust and possibly rot some other places. The old powderst needs to come off! A body off is the only true peace of mind
was it for this Chimaera? btw a very cool good looking car in the picture
Hello,
An update - Getting Jiggy With It

The old crap has all been cut out and new outriggers welded in correctly.
Note that they have been using a jig to place the outriggers.
As far as I can tell the welding as all done so next will be the powder coating and then the rebuild!!
YEAH

that are some updates.
same type engine or something with more hp.
edit..I see I'm a bid of topic in someone else-s thread, do you have your own thread with this car? linky?
I dont have time to make a thread about the build, need to get it done Engine is a high compression 4.6 with stage 3 heads, super light fly and roller rockerssame type engine or something with more hp.

Well it's been a while but we are getting there!!
I now have a rolling chassis, engine, gear box and diff are all in.
They did find an old crack in the bell housing but it's not going anywhere so we've just bolted it back on.
Only trouble is that now the engine looks really scruffy compared the new chassis.
Hopefully in 2 weeks I'll have my car back.

Right then, FINAL POST!
After a few weeks delay I finally got my Chimaera back from Sheffield.
Overall it took 13 weeks to complete the rebuild. Longer than expected but quicker than I could have done it!!
There were a few extras that put the cost up a bit (PM me if you want a full breakdown of the costs).
I also had the pre-cats removed (they cut the manifold and then re-welded).
The chassis looks really good and it handles well too. Took it to the lake district for a run and the only problem I had was getting over the speed humps on the camp site.

Now for some more relaxed fettling!!
