Hi all,

The problem I have is that the driver’s side door release intermittently fails to open from the wing mirror release button ?? It opens using the central column, and once open if I keep pressing the wing mirror button it will eventually start to work.

It appears that once the central locking is applied via the alarm, the problem starts again.

Any ideas and best way to fix?

This is probably the button/switch on the wing mirror starting to go. Mine gave up on me and I temporarily rigged up a flick switch while I got my act together and went to TVR for a replacement (approx £15 for a push button !). The job is easy enough to do (best to solder the wires on to the button).
Unfortunately I left some wires loose (well it was only a temp fix) and when I put the mirror back into position the wires got pinched and shorted the door release solenoid. The door flew open as I was driving along at the time!
It seems that the circuit doesn't go through a fuse or anything, just straight through to the solenoid (£30 +).
Learn from my lesson and either get the replacement button first, or make sure your wires in the mirror are all tidy and can't get pinched !

I had a similar thing on my '98 Chimaera.

It turned out that the door solenoid was on its last legs and was replaced (under warranty) by the dealer.

Answer to your question, in the b pillar (just behinh the door access via a velcro'd down bit of trim behind the drivers seat)

Check if you're getting "a sound" of the solenoid activating when the door's not opening, if there's sound you've probably got movement, and the problem is that the mechanism is "locked" also by solenoid and that's the one that's on it's way out

Sorted my drivers door out recently. Symptoms were identical to yours but nothing to do with solenoid or push button. There is a connector in the loom internal to the door on mine. If you remove the speaker you can access it and mine was nice and damp! Disconnected it and dried things out with a heat gun (hairdryer would be good too), applied a squirt of WD40 and reassembled. Works faultlessly now and this is easy to check too.

I have had the same problem, when you press the door mirror button listen carefully for a relay the switch within the dash, if you cant hear it I guess the button is at fault, if you can it's the solenoid end. WD40 worked for a while but it still occasionaly sticks, usually when access to the passenger door is limited and the roof is on. Never been locked out though. (hope I'm not tempting fate here).
