I spoke with Richard at Hexham Horseless Carriages on Thursday as I get all my work done there. He said I could get a refurbed rad or go for a radtech alloy rad that he said were very good. The issue with my rad is corrosion and it's not cooling efficiently. So a recore is not an option
I've heard good and bad from both options

Re the Ally or original, my last car had just been fitted with a standard rad when I bought it and it split within a couple of weeks of me owning the car.
Dan Taylor replaced it with an ally one (he hadnt fitted the standard one) and showed me how loose they should fit in the feet/locating pins. I believe that poor fitting causes more problem than the material of the rad. That one is still going strong 5 or 6 years later.
