I'm taking all this information on board and bookmarked the thread so I can find it again.

Cheers

Me too; have got a near-side unit but on the lookout for an offside now... smile

I'm curious what the problem is with the standard mirrors? OP seems to suggest that they break somehow?

My driver’s side one broke three times in the internal metalwork department, and was then floppy when repaired. My passenger side one got hit by a passing car.
I was having the car resprayed anyway, so decided it was time to improve them.

Probably refering to the Tripod (£20.00)

But I would suggest some reasons for uprating to the mirrors TVR fitted on later models.....

The original mirrors are becoming difficult to obtain and because there are a number of sport car makers that used them the prices are rising.

BX mirrors are not easy to remove/replace (to repair for example) due to the way TVR chose to recess them into the door unlike Citroen who flush mounted them.

The VW Corrado mirrors are secured by removing the fixings one at a time after exposing them by twisting the mirror one way then the other and because they don't twist off the door the wiring remains straight.

In my case I have holes in the doors therefore no mounts, two mirrors that need tripods and one heated mirror glass, untested glass motors and probably other bits. Therefore a good case for change methinks.

No, not the tripods. The metal frame of the mirror broke, where it meets the tripod. It had been repaired a few times, and I had fitted a new one too, then I had trouble getting the mirrors tight on the car. They seemed to be floppy whatever I did. Annoying every time I pressed the door opening button

Obviously, you clearly meant CX mirrors here and did not realise you'd hit the wrong key ;-)

They were quite cheap when they were still sold as Citroen CX mirrors. But once breakers realised they were used on TVR, Lotus Excel and Esprit plus others the prices went up.

The same has now happened with VW Corrado mirrors unfortunately. frown

Have you have seen the replacement bases for the CX mirrors which address the fitting, adjusting and mounting issues?

In my case, yes I've seen em but I think they would fall through the holes in my doorslaugh

So I've bought some Corrado mirrors for when the time comes to put all the bits back on/in the doors and put em back on the car.clap

Presumably you are going to fill those smooth, and fit the Corrado mirrors without the adaptors?
Do be aware that the Corrado mirrors have an extra wire - the wiring diagrams are near the beginning of this thread IIRC

This is all you need.
just a quick thanks Steve, that helped no end with fitting Corrado mirrors to my S. Previously manual mirrors so had no wiring at all.

You won't need those if you fit VW Corrado mirrors wink

Might find a thread over in the S forum as a couple of guys fitted them. They are a replacement cnc'd unit with better fixings.

I've been eyeing up Corsa d vxr mirrors recently, there seem to be a few more options of mirrors mounted in the correct way for a chimaera now.

I've missed that one. Can you do a link or got a name of the guy who started, something to help find it ?
